Electronic RSVP???

Jordan, on February 15, 2013 at 1:36 AM Posted in Planning 0 19

Has anybody done electronic RSVPs? if so, did you get a good response from them? its so expensive anymore to post mark & send RSVPs with invitations (we are inviting 350 YIKES) that I was thinking about doing RSVPs electronically & sending a website to our wedding page with our invites?! HELP!!!

This has worked quite well for a lot of my brides I work with. It saves money, and time, and in today's electronic world, it's almost a must! I actually get a better rsvp return than with the traditional cards. If you are working with a wedding planner, they can keep up with all of that for you!

I made my own RSVP cards so it cost me the price of a pack of cardstock paper and printer ink for mine.

I also put our wedding website on the invitations!

Do you have a wedding website set up yet? If not, I recommend doing it as soon as you can! I have not used the one on WeddingWire yet, but I would imagine it would be easy to set up and use. You can track your budget, guest list, RSVP'S and more...

Jennifer's idea is a good one, if you want the expense of adding postage. Just remember, if you don't get a good response either way, it is perfectly acceptable to start calling people a couple of weeks before hand and ask them if they are coming or not!

I did all online RSVPs, because all of my guests were computer savvy or had someone close who could RSVP for them - my aunt RSVPed for my grandmother, my father for my grandfather, etc. My aunt was also driving my grandmother, and my parents picking up my grandfather from the airport, so it made sense.

If you have some that AREN'T computer savvy, I would suggest traditional RSVPs for at least those folks. Or even a Google Voice phone line for people to call.

Still have a separate RSVP card explaining what folks should do, though. I had to ask a LOT of people whether or not they were coming because they just assumed I'd know they'd be there. We were the first "real" wedding on both sides of the family, so people dind't know that the RSVPs mattered as much. (The last wedding just assumed a number and worked with that -- we needed actual #s.)

Make a WW website and use their rsvp feature. It's what I'm using. Smiley smile

I'm using vistaprints free business cards for rsvp cards that will have our website and log in password.

We are doing traditional RSVP cards because we know our older guests would not use an online RSVP.

We had the snail mail rsvp cards in our invites but also said they could fill out an electronic rsvp on our website we've had 2 electrionic ones and about 20 snail mail... so our crowd seems to be liking the traditional cards.

So, those of you that did both...do you still put postage on the paper ones? *still trying to decide this too*

To avoid the price of postage, I will include RSVP cards and give the options of an electronic response or calling our contact person. In most cases, you will probably find yourself calling some because everyone will not assist in responding. I have learned that some individuals forget to respond, some have etiquette and others don't care. The ones that don't care are usually the ones that think you owe them something...like seats at the wedding with no response.

I opted for a postcard RSVP to save on postage. I know at least some of our guests would not do an electronic RSVP.

I'd be all over that myself, but I'm on a computer 40 hours a week at work. I have a smart phone. I use a laptop at home. However, not everyone is so connected.

With that many invites, you will probably get a good number who RSVP online. That said, we sent out about 60 invitations with stamped RSVP return envelops. At that point, I also reset my WW website counter so I could see how many visited the site - our online RSVP is set up there. With about 1/3 of the responses in, only 1 couple has RSVP'd online...we received response cards from all the rest. The website has only been visited about 10 times, though the invitation also included another card with the URL and what you could do there (RSVP, get accommodation info, etc.). Our guests skew to an older demographic - my Mom thought she RSVP'd online, but she actually just sent me a message through the site. In fact, info we sent by email to collect the mailing addresses in the first place largely went unread, as we had to make a lot of phone calls to get them. Working in technology, I can't imagine not checking my email!

We are going to give our guests the option to RSVP by email or by phone. Its much easier that way I think.

We stamped the ones that were to grandparent, older aunts and really just the people we weren't quite sure about their tech-savy-ness. but the people i work with and the 20 some things i figure they can come up with a stamp or go online or if they text/email/call us thats fine too. even though you have 350 people (if i read it right...) that probably doesn't mean you'll need 350 invites we invited 245 people and had 112 invites. (postcards are about $.10 cheaper a piece to have for the rsvp and they dont add as much weight as a rsvp and envelope so that might help mailing it out too if your close on weight between 46 and 66 cent stamps for the invitation.

I am going to use the RSVP function on our WW site, I think that it is a great idea! For our older or non-computer savvy family members we are asking that they call us or send their RSVP via email.

We had entirely online RSVPs. NotFroofy developed our website, and the RSVPs automatically went into a Google docs spreadsheet that showed who had RSVPed, meal choices, etc. It also had pulled up the names of the people who had been invited, and allowed a yes or no for each of those people, but provided no way to add an extra person. Only one person in our entire guest list had problems with it.

We are having a destination wedding in August and were originally told that we had to pick one entree for our guests and now have enough people attending that we have 3 options for them to pick from. We already have sent out invites and gotten RSVP's back and I really don't want to send another mailer (nor do we have the time). Is there a good website we could use that people could just RSVP their dinner option to or is the best way to use email if we need to do it electronically?

    Thank you!!
