Eek...a teeny tiny over budget already!🤷‍♀️

Joneka, on October 5, 2020 at 8:08 PM Posted in Planning 1 20
So FI has asked me where we were in reference to the budget. I swore I was still in the realm of our budget. I had all receipts but finally sat down today and created an excel spreadsheet. Our total budget is $5,000, with both of us contributing $2500.

Yall, I'm $700 over my $2500! Eek! Etsy...Hobby Lobby & Michaels have got me in trouble!!!!! I told FI he just laughed and said "I knew your butt was over budget!"
Whew! Im glad he loves me yall. LOL. Cant wait.. March 2021.

You did yourself a favor making that spreadsheet (I love spreadsheets). It will be so much easier to stay on track from here on out!

That’s adorable 🤣 You’re better than me, I’m too scared to make a spreadsheet cause I know I’m not gonna like the number I’ll see lol

The struggle is real! I have two separate spreadsheets.. the one with the vendor payments, and the one with all the "extras" -- and those extras REALLY add up.

My one friend told me that in the month before her wedding, she threw the budget out the window because there was so much last-minute spending and I definitely feel that. This week I'm just like "ok, am I finally done buying things now?!" But nope, stuff keeps popping up.

Gurl, he was not going to let up until he knew logistically where we were. He knew I was over, he just wanted me to admit it! 🤦‍♀️So, now I can tame it down just a tad. He knows the word budget is like kryptonite to me!

ME TOO! The extras is what getting me! He would ask if I was done or what was on my list and everytime I got close to being done...it was something else...LOL. He would say "done shopping, eh?!" It went from a wedding closet to a wedding room!

I said, I would never be that wife that hides boxes from the hubs....but I'm there!
Okay, I think I just need candles for the vases...and then IM DONE....maybe?! LOL

Omg right! We have a small 2 bedroom apartment and I was keeping wedding stuff in the spare room, but it has now spilled out into the dining/living area.

Just this week I realized I forgot to buy a nice wood hanger for my dress, we now need a microphone stand, and the cake cutting set I ordered 2 months ago had production/shipping delays, so I had to Prime a new one! Ahhhh no more lol.

Budget? Never heard of her! Lol! JK! We’re paying for everything. I have a budget in my head but I always go over. Dress budget $500 but spent $810. Invitations-was over by $116. Haven’t meet with the baker or florist but I’m hoping it won’t be too bad. However, we budgeted $5100 for our honeymoon (without airfare) & I got it for $3949! Score!

There's that "B" word...lol....Budget! Girl, your doing great and it sounds like it will even out since your got a great deal on honeymoon!
I did the same thing with invites. I tried to low ball them because I saw some on sale at hobby lobby on clearance for $7.50 for 25. I just wasnt satisfied so I went with Ann's Bridal Bargain $175. Oops!

FI just doesnt realize what things cost, ALTHOUGH he does know my taste🤑

I love spreadsheets! I have a wedding budget spreadsheet and a family budget spreadsheet. I’ve given myself time frames of when I can make wedding purchases to try to keep me within both budgets. FH and I have joint accounts so the money all comes from the same place but I manage our money. So far I’ve done a pretty good job at it, but there have been a couple of things that have gotten pushed up because I’m impatient.
Right now I’m literally counting down the days until it isn’t weird for me to order my invitations for my March 13 wedding. 😁

My plan is to order them October 15th. We are having a destination wedding in a popular tourist area so we will be sending invites out earlier than the norm to give people time to book reservations. We are sending December 1st.

Oh, I can so relate! FH did put me on a budget, but we still were flexible along the way. Kept a planning Excel workbook throughout where on one tab I had pricing of different items sourced from different vendors to get to my vision at the lowest possible price, and a running color coded spreadsheet on another tab that kept track of things that I was yet to buy plus the things that were still pending, with a running total. On a third tab, I had the different modes of payment - each credit card with running balances, cash in bank, gift cards, etc. Elaborate? Yes, I'm such a nerd. Lol

You're not kidding when you say the little extras get you. Those are the things that got me, too, and they add up FAST!

    Haha! I feel you!

FH & I are paying for most of it while our families are helping in certain areas, but I'm way too nervous to see where we are in what we're choosing to spend. I haven't bought too much, I just know FH has put me on a budget with purchasing extras lol

I know I’m over budget, but we’ve had expenses added, one night in a hotel that washy originally on the plan, getting my car washed and detailed before the wedding which I didn’t really plan on. But we’re also not paying for a reception venue now which is nice. I also know I didn’t budget for the cost of photos to be printed.

I love that his budget "spidey senses" were tingling!! 😆😂

Don't worry, going over-budget happens way more easily than you think!! You can hit him back with some our WeddingWire's Newlywed Report stats, including the fact that "nearly 60% of couples increase their initial budget", but also that "62% of newlyweds say they don’t regret the splurge and would spend the extra money again"! 💸

Luckily my FW hasn't really put me on a budget and she only cares about the cost of the big ticket items such as venue, photographer, caterer, and DJ so all of the extra little stuff she will never know about Smiley xd (I am keeping a spreadsheet incase she happens to ask)
