Early 40's second wedding?... dress concerns

Irishlass, on March 22, 2012 at 11:16 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 11

Its my second wedding...(but the RIGHT one this time). . Smiley smile

What type of wedding dress would be appropriate? I am petite and thin, and we are eloping...if that matters. No guests... Just the 2 of us. Smiley smile I want elegance, but age and situation appropriate. Help?

Hello Molly. I to am in my 40's, but this is my first marriage. Whether you are eloping somewhere (Las Vegas, Atlantic City) or going to the JOP? Either way, a cocktail length dress is age and situation appropriate.

Honestly, you can wear whatever you want. I was 56 on my wedding day, it was my second wedding, and we had what was pretty close to an elopement (a dozen guests). And I wore a full-length ivory wedding dress with a veil. However, if you prefer, you can wear an evening dress, a suit, a street-length dress you particularly like, or pants. If it's just the two of you, then anything that works for you and your fiance is absolutely fine.

My mother's wedding dress (late 30s, almost 40, 3rd wedding) was beautiful AND classy: a thick-strapped halter sheath, floor-length and in an iridescent purple that looked slightly off-white straight on but shimmered when she moved. Floral head wreath and a small bouquet that matched the iridescent tones of the wedding decor.

Congrats and hope these ideas help! Smiley smile

Thanks everyone!!!! No worries on the cleavage... I am fairly modest, so my dress will be modest as well. I was just worried that if I chose a floor length gown, I'd look "old" (even though I am told I look many years younger than I am.). I'm not going for flouncey, pouffy, or huge....just elegant and sophisticated...and hopefully a little fun.

Thanks for the help!!!! Smiley smile

Im 41 and getting married in June, I originally bought a very simple short ivory dress (strapless) and some killer heels, but... my FH has never been married and he expressed his interest in a long dress, so I bought a long dress! Im petite too, I chose a backless, dress with a short train, very simple and elegant. I know exactly what you're feeling, I am still struggling with the veil or no veil dilemma, I went for my first fitting last week and the seamstress got goosebumps when I put a veil on with it (she wasn't just saying it, I could see them Smiley smile But,, I still am not convinced about the veil, what are your thoughts on veils?

I am having the same troubles!!! I am 43, second marriage, so I would feel silly in a veil....I think. But would it look silly?? Again...I am not going for huge and fluffy with the gown... So I was considering tiara or small flowers. ????? I say if your fiance wants a more traditional look... Then go for it!!! Seamstresses see a lot every day. If you gave her goosebumps..... You must look AMAZING!!

I'm re-marrying my first husband so I wanted something simple. I tried on about twenty dresses before my daughter and I agreed on "the one", a long white formal gown. It just felt right.

It's whatever YOU are comfortable in. Some brides wear an off white/not-as-poufy dress (like a cocktail dress) and it's beautiful. My mom wore a blue dress for her 2nd wedding. It's whatever you're into and what makes you feel beautiful Smiley smile
