Dyeing Wedding Shoes

Nicole, on February 3, 2019 at 2:24 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 31

Hello all,

Does anyone have any experience dyeing shoes? I've had a rough time finding a pair of shoes that I want to wear for the ceremony as I want them to be a dark emerald color to match FH's suit. The first pair I found and loved were released in 2011 and are literally no where to be found anymore (I've searched for probably 5 months). The second pair were a 2017 release by Badgley Mischka, but the emerald color is again no where to be found in my size (8.5).

So, I've been thinking about buying a white/ivory pair and getting them dyed to match a swatch. I've heard of myglassslipper.com, but it looks like they're no longer in business? I've also come across dyeableshoestore.com. Does anyone have any experience with this website? I really don't want to go the DIY route as I don't trust myself to not ruin a pair of shoes and would prefer a professional to attempt this. Any other ideas? First picture is the shoes I first loved, second picture is the Badgley Mischkas.

I don't have any experience with coloring shoes, but David's Bridal has an entire line of dyeable shoes, have you tried there yet?

Here is a cute option in emerald.

I would wait until the fall/winter to try dying white shoes. Emerald green is a more fall/winter color so I would think that you’ll have better luck finding a similar shoe in October-December.

That's what I thought this past October-December! I didn't find anything out there that appealed to me. I think that's the problem...I want a pair that I will wear after the wedding, so if they're not in a style that I normally wear, then I'm not going to spend the money on them.

Thank you! Unfortunately, I didn't see anything that didn't remind me of the kind of shoes I wore to my high school dances. I'll keep looking back there though to see if they come out with different styles!

Thank you for the suggestions. I don’t like pointed toe or rhinestones and I’d prefer to have a higher heel as my FH is 7 inches taller than me. I know, I’m picky.

Thank you. I’ve gone through pages and pages on Amazon for the last few months without success. That’s why I’m thinking of going the dyeing route.

I had a difficult time finding my shoes too. Funnily more difficult than finding my dress. I found tan leather sandals and used Angelus leather paint that was a few shades lighter. Apparently it's a common thing to do, and my shoes came out perfectly.
I'm not sure about dyeing shoes, and it seems that others have posted.
Have you tried using shopstyle.com to search? I have found it helpful in locating items from all over the internet.

I’ve never died “normal” shoes but I grew up showing horses and I’ve had many pairs of boots dyed to match outfits. I think the key is to find someone who knows what they are doing. Most good dyers can match it to a swatch of something. Have you checked to see if there are any shoemakers in your area?
