DW-did you get physical gifts at your wedding?

Sparkles, on May 22, 2015 at 1:41 PM Posted in Planning 0 8

Hi everyone,

We technically have a destination wedding, where about 65% of guests will be flying in, and the other 45% will be driving at least four hours. The venue is asking if I want a table to be set up to receive physical gifts on. For those of you who did not get married close to home, did people bring gifts to your wedding or not?

I got married an hour from home. Does that count? Probably not. Since there aren't many married ladies on here I'll answer anyways. I got approximately 2 boxed gifts AT my wedding. One was a bottle of wine, the other was an ugly clock. Oh, and my bridesmaids gave me some boxed gifts at the rehearsal dinner. I think most people just bring cash or have the boxed gift shipped to your home, nowadays. Edited for spelling.

Not married yet, but if people are flying or driving long distances to your wedding... I doubt they will bring actual gifts. I think it's pretty safe to say almost everyone will just give you cash.

We were married 2 hours from home, had a small registry with Macy's and guests still brought physical gifts with them. We had about 6 boxed gifts we had to carry back with us. The rest were cards with cash or gift cards.

The past several wedding that I've been to, there have only been 2-3 big boxed gifts, and that was local. My guess is people will send them to you or give cash. Definitely have a place for cards though.

We did get some but the majority gave cash or gift cards. I would still set up a table, and you can put your card box on it. It would be more awkard to have no where to put boxed gifts, than to have a table with just a few on it IMO. Some of the people dropped stuff off at our house (the ones that drove), like the parents etc.

Seems like most of the stuff that would have been in boxes was shipped directly from our registry store. All cards, at the reception. 3.5 hours drive east of his side and 1.5 hours west of mine.

My sister had 225 guests and most gifts were in cards. She had one shopping bag full of boxed gifts, including a couple of belated shower gifts.

Our wedding was 8 hours from our home. Only one of the guests was local to the area. Yet we got physical gifts at the wedding. Fortunately, we drove there in our minivan, so we were able to bring stuff home with us.

We're gonna have a small card box/ gift table. We live overseas so I think people will get that physical gifts won't work.
