Drink tickets

ShortStack, on April 25, 2017 at 3:19 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 32

My dad is paying for our reception and has set a budget. The restaurant chosen offers a open bar package or the option to do drink tickets. He is most interested in drink tickets. I'm not a huge fan, so I offered to cover what goes over his budget. Would you hate getting drink tickets at a rehearsal dinner? For what it is worth dinner will be from 6 to 8 pm. Our wedding the next day will have an open bar.

I think it's fine for a rehearsal dinner honestly.

I would avoid drink tickets, even for a rehearsal dinner. If it is only two hours, the bar tab shouldn't be too bad anyway.

Honestly at a rehearsal dinner, I would be more offended by that than a cash bar.

At a reception, I would try to figure out who had booze stashed in their car.

I don't think drink tickets are ever a good idea! People will definitely drink less at the rehearsal dinner and the rehearsal dinner should be a fairly set length. You can always choose a cheaper tier of liquor or only provide beer and wine options!

Nay on the drink tickets. If you had to pay for the tab after the two hours it may even be cheaper than doing a set number of drink tickets?

Don't do drink tickets. We had 46 people at our rehearsal dinner from 6-9pm and our bar tab was around $1200.

I hate the idea of it and hadn't heard of drink tickets for a rehearsal. My FFIL had mentioned his niece had them at her wedding, so he also suggested drink tickets for the rehearsal before the restaurant wrote me back.

I think I'll suggest a few bottles of wine on the table and a few beer options. Thanks everyone!

Great idea Shortstack, offering to pay what is over what your father budgeted for. Just let your dad know that 2 hrs is not a lot of time (unless you are worried about guests at the RD getting crazy drunk). Congratulations by the way!

No drink tickets. The venue is going to charge you $x for every ticket. Even if someone just gets a soda, your father will be paying the price of an alcoholic beverage

Drink tickets are super tacky. Especially for a RD, few people will have more than 2 drinks anyway (if that). Compromise with your dad and tell him you will cover any tab over $x or over 2 drinks pp, however you work it out.

    No tickets. It's really tacky.

Pay for the drinks. If your dad is paying for the RD and the dinner the next day, maybe you spring for it. It won't be much.

Don't do them. It's only a couple of hours, and I don't think anyone will be slamming down drinks during the dinner, so the tab shouldn't be too bad. You can also just do beer and wine Smiley smile

I've gone to multiple rehearsal dinners and I've never seen an open bar. It's always been a cash bar. This is new to me!

We are only doing beer and wine for rehearsal dinner, that is a totally acceptable option! Or do consumption- for 2 hours and I'm assuming a small guest list, there wont be as much of a bar tab anyways.

No absolutely not! Do not give your guests drink tickets! You're guest aren't children and your wedding is not a fair. Rehearsal dinner or not it should never be an option. It's very tacky there are other ways to have alcohol available and still be cost effective.
