Dress too Fancy For the Venue?

RobotCat, on January 20, 2016 at 11:51 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 14

I found a dress I love, at the first bridal shop I visited. I always pictured myself in a cute short/tea length dress, but my mom and I picked it out just for fun, because it was so not the style I thought I wanted. I ended up loving it, but I worry it is just too much for our venue and type of wedding we have planned. The ceremony and reception are taking place at a state park, outdoors, casual, food truck catering, everyone is staying in cabins on site. I guess what I'm asking is, is this too fancy for the wedding I am planning? Picture is obviously not me, and the gown I tried on is ivory.

That does look like its a little fancy for what you're looking for. BUT if you love it it's your wedding day. Wear what you love!

If you love it, it will be ok! But I am having a similar wedding (food trucks, indoor and outdoor, local park with indoor facility as well) and I went tea length. I didn't want to drag my dress on the ground.

I say if you love it get it! I'm wearing a ball gown to my city hall wedding because it's my dream dress. Follow your heart.

No way! The wedding does sound casual, but if there is any part of it that can ever be over-fancy, it's the dress. Wear exactly what you want.

I don't think a wedding dress is ever too fancy.

I'd worry about the bottom of the dress, because it is so textured, dragging on the ground. Sticks, weeds, dirt, the whole nine yards, collecting on the ruffles. Sorry Bee, it's a FABULOUS dress but I don't think you'd be happy the day of your wedding with it.

I've never gone to an outdoors wedding and thought, "geez, the bride is overdressed." As the bride, you get to wear whatever you want and whatever makes you feel amazing! It's a beautiful dress and I'm sure a good seamstress can hem and bustle it so it isn't dragging all day.

I'm typically of the mind that a bride should wear what makes her feel beautiful and what she loves, however in this case, the style of the dress is in such huge contrast to the wedding you're having. I don't think it would be a huge no-no to wear that but, I wouldn't if it were me. It is beautiful though.

You are the Bride you are your own dress code. Wear what you want. Either way you'll stand out in a white dress.

Also - what state and what park? My wedding is at a National Park and I am STOKED to make my family hike a mile up a mountain to see us get married Smiley smile

If it's your dream dress, get it. You don't want to be wishing you bought it later on. I'm having a rustic-country-chic outdoor barn wedding which means a lace dress. My dream dress (if it looks good on me) is a princess ball gown with glitter and pin tucks, no lace and a looooong train. Totally won't fit, but I don't care!
