Dress Storage

Elle, on June 25, 2019 at 7:04 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 22
So I’m really beating myself up right now but I bought a dress my first time out a few weeks ago and it’s in already. 🤦🏻‍♀️ My wedding is not until October 2020. I have already had dress regret a few times but now I really don’t know how to store the dress for 15 months. My fiancé and I also live together. Any suggestions on what to do to preserve my dress and store it for over a year? Oh and to STOP my dress regret too? Smiley sad

DB sells dress bags that are not see through for like $10. Start there to hide it from FH.
I bought my dress way too early too, and have had multiple bouts of dress regret. But I remind myself there’s a reason I chose that dress, and it will look so much better after it’s altered. That keeps my dress regret in check most of the time.

I stored my dress at my moms. For the dress regret I deleted any other picture of a dress so had saved and looked at me in the dress I ordered

Anything in the bag to prevent it from yellowing? I’m sorry you understand how I feel!

My mom can’t take it for at least a few weeks so said. What did you store it in? Good idea! I’ll delete them now.

I stored my dress in our spare room closet. Then I took it to my sister's house and put it in her spare room closet.

As far as the dress regret, stop looking! Delete any pictures! Try to focus on why you loved it in the first place. I know its beautiful so try it on occasionally. Smiley smile

I’ve had mine in a bag for 6 months and no yellowing has occurred. I also live with my FH and I just asked him to not look in the bag and he has 100% been cool with it. He is so excited to see me the day of he doesn’t even want to look.
I had dress regret too... but mine came after I lost 20 lbs and it looks so different I hated the way it looked on my body.. I am also planning on losing more and so I got myself a new dress. Now I am feeling much better. I have been obsessed with my new dress and anytime I see one that I like I just look at the one I love.

Haha, well I bought my dress before I even met my fiancé. Just felt “right” and that was from two years ago. It is now my reception dress since I stumbled upon another one for a steal 🙈 but all I did was keep it in a plastic hanging bag and it has been fine.

Definitely store it in a cloth bag (the one from DB was only $10 and works perfectly fine). As for dress regret, I had to stop looking at pics of other dresses (which is tough because now they’re everywhere on my FB and Instagram ads). Remind yourself of what made you fall in love with your dress in the first place. And know that once it’s altered specifically for you it will be perfect. I had some doubts about my dress being so open on the chest area, but once I found the perfect necklace it all came together. Think of what accessories you’ll be wearing to bring the look to life!

I bought mine about that far out as well. It's been stored in our spare room closet and FH completelt forgot it's even in there.

I haven't really had any regrets, mostly because none of my family or friends took pictures of me in any other dresses and my shopping experience was so bad I can't imagine doing it again. Hang on to the pic of you in the dress and remind yourself why you love it. Also remind yourself that it really is just a dress and whether there are better ones out there or not, your wedding will be beautiful and you will look beautiful.

I'm kinda in the same boat as you. I got my dress in dec. It came in 2 weeks later. So I'm going to have that dress for almost 7 months. I got a cute bag for it from etsy. I got one on David's bridal but I didn't like it, I know it's weird lol. My wedding is in april of next year. So I got a few months to go. My friend showed me her dress she got, also DB, and shes had it way longer (her wedding was cancelled.) The dress still looks good. So dont worry. When I saw her dress, my anxieties went away.

I didn’t know yellowing was a thing I was supposed to worry about. I’ve had it in the closet for 14 months and I’m reasonably sure it’s the same color it was when I bought it.

I think yellowing happens over a much longer period of time. My mother didn't preserve hers and it really hasn't yellowed, it's in a plastic bag too. Which isn't even good for the fabric.
I bought my dress in March 19 for October 20 wedding. It's in my closet in a bag, honestly my fiance forgets it's there, the Best Man is probably more tempted to look at it than the groom 🤣 🤦
I think you'll be okay with a fabric garment bag.

Thank you ladies! Most of my dress regret is seeing so many brides in the same one Smiley sad I even stopped looking at photographers.

I have the same problem right now. I am storing it at a family member or friends house that i can trust. Do not look at anymore wedding dresses on any website, i deleted every dress related thing on my phone and social media accounts.

If it's that long, have a dry cleaner do a wedding dress preservation process. They seal it and box it so that it is protected and doesn't yellow. You can have it steamed out when its time. Plus the box is a good way to ensure that he doesn't see it

Does your bridal salon offer storage? I bought my dress last October and my wedding is this October- so I feel ya sister! I’m paying a small fee to have them store my dress and then I pick it up after all my alterations. I want to make sure it’s stored correctly! Also, dress regret sucks... I still get it but when I start to feel some type of way I always go back to my videos of me in the dress. Take videos of you in your dress! Moving, dancing, posing, all the things! It will remind you why you love it so much 💗. That’s helped me a ton!!

I bought a dress bag from David’s Bridal. My FSIL has my wedding dress so he can’t see it. Maybe you can have someone hold it for you??

Mine is currently stored in my old bedroom at my parent’s house. I have it in one of the dress bags I bought from DB. My mom is actually the one who is really paranoid about the dress, so she made sure to close all of the blinds so that there’s no light to cause discoloration and keeps the temperature not too warm but not cold. She also checks on it every week just to make sure it’s okay. Lol. She makes me laugh, but I love the fact that she cares so much!

Though our wedding is just around the corner I thought about this too, now that my dress is ready to be picked up, I was like "Oh, crap!" so I asked my Mom if I could keep it at her house in her closet, especially since it will already be in a garment bag.
