Dress shopping in two weeks

Rebecca, on October 25, 2019 at 5:10 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 29
I’m going dress shopping for the first time in two weeks! I’m trying to keep an open mind but I am so drawn to A-line dresses. Did you end up with the same dress silhouette that you thought you would, or did you end up loving something totally different?

I knew I would go with an a-line and I did, but I 100000% thought I would have long lace sleeves and my dress is sleeveless.

I have always loved ballgowns which is what I got. I tried on other styles because my mom thought I should to make sure I didn't like something better.

Believe it or not, I actually ordered my dress online. I never went to any stores to try dresses on lol i didn't want to spend so much on a dress. Took me a few months to find a good website, i went with cocomelody. I always dreamed of a Ballgown dress but I found a beautiful long sleeve A-Line dress and ordered it. It arrived in great timing and fit like a glove! I ended up ordering a petticoat from JJhouse and I got the ballgown effect! Have fun! honestly try on other styles just to rule them out! You never know you could fall in love with something you never saw yourself in.

I almost didn't try on my dress. My heart was set on something more fit and flare, but I saw the ballgown and decided to try it on just to see. We tried that one first, and I realized that no dress would compare. Every dress after was just "I like it but..." So I ended up with a drop waist ballgown with a huge skirt of ruffles that I just love and could not imagine anything else!

Not at all. I thought I’d get a slim fit or a mermaid dress either off the shoulder, short sleeves, or thin straps, and I ended up with an A-line strapless

My wedding dress Pinterest board is filled with nothing but a-lines and ballgowns.

Even though I had an open mind going in, I truly thought I'd walk out with a tulle & lace a-line. I'm still drawn to them, and always soon over them anytime someone here posts a new one.

But that's not what I ended up with myself! I got a fit and flare with a dropped waist that has tulle and lace over satin, with a lot of intricate beading work up top. Similar to my original vision, but definitely different.

The other dresses shortened my torso in a way that I wasn't expecting. I didn't want anything fitted because I'm super self-conscious about my figure even though I'm relatively thin, but I felt great in my dress! It was the first one I tried on, and after trying on all the others, I just kept wanting to take them off and get back in the original dress.

    Good luck!

I had an open mind going to check out dresses. I had my mom, sister and future MIL and they all have different styles. I wanted to try on different styles to see what would look best and at the end of the day I ended up getting the A-line dress my mom chose in our second location cause that's the dress everyone started crying when I walked out of the fitting room!

You're going to have fun! Good luck!!!

I pretty much picked my dress mostly with shape in mind. I ended up with only slightly different than I thought I wanted! Don’t feel bad if you keep saying no to dresses... sometimes you just know what you want. The consultants (I went to multiple places) all kept trying to figure out what I wanted and although my mom kept saying “that one looks so good on you” I knew I didn’t like it... until I found the one! Happy shopping- enjoy the process and it’s okay to be picky!

Not at all. I wanted an A-line dress with cap sleeves or a lace high-neck top and a flowy mesh skirt for the longest time. But then I tried on my dress and knew it was the one! It’s a V-neck fit and flare with lace all over, which is quite different than what I initially envisioned. Definitely keep an open mind when shopping, as you never know what you’ll find, but it’s okay to be selective/picky through the process!

Let me tell you! When I first started looking I loved so many different styles I had no idea how I would find the right dress. By the time my dress appointment came up though I had found a common theme between all of the dresses and most of my favorite dresses on their site were smaller ball gowns or a-line. I had my eye on one specifically but was open to trying dresses my bridesmaids thought would look good on me.

This was the dress I couldn't get out of my head. I tried it on first and automatically changed my mind. Unfortunately most of my favorite dresses were discontinued so I couldn't try them on. They did have two other though so I tried them.

I liked this one but it was the last one and there were some major detail fixes that would have to be made. I was trying to really watch my budget and all those fixes would add up.

This next one was the second dress I tried on. It was the most different from all of the other dresses.

Here's the deal, I loved it! I wasn't looking at white, it's white. I was looking at tulle, there's no tulle. I was looking at a-line or ball gown, it's a sheath dress.

I can't beat the price either, I set a budget for $500 but only spent $200 on the dress!

The point of this lengthy post is to keep an open mind. Maybe let the people that come with you pick some dresses that they think you would look good in. Tell your consultant what you're looking at, maybe bring pictures or if they have a site save some of your favorites. Ask them to pick something for you to try?

    Happy dress shopping!

I just said yes to the dress on Saturday and it's actually exactly what I envisioned me wearing. I did still keep an open mind but I also knew what I liked and I'm so in love with it. Good luck and have fun.

I think it's great to have an idea of what you are looking for - but keep an open mind! Be open with your salon, and find someone/where you trust and work well with. There were so many dresses I tried on that I never pictured myself in but really liked once I put them on. This ultimately led to me a dress I fell in love with (and said yes to!), that I otherwise may have not have even picked up off the rack.

I wanted a ballgown or A-line, and that's what I got! I'm not a huge fan of the other styles, and I wanted to be able to eat without worrying about bloating. My ballgown dress hid my stomach and I felt confident all night. Honestly, overall my dress was VERY "me" and I think that's SO important

Be open to what you want to try on, but trust your consultants! They know what they're doing!

I thought I would end up with a fit and flare (and did) but kept ignoring a dress *but kept looking at it on the rack* and the consultant made me try it on and it was to die for. It was the one.

I knew I liked the A line style, but I went to my dress shopping appointment with an open mind and tried on a bunch of styles. I definitely do not regret it! I did end up getting my A line style though Smiley heart

I always knew I wanted an a-line gown. I have an hourglass shape and it’s what I feel most comfortable in. I ended up with a blush colored a-line gown and I love it! I tried on other styles but I kept gravitating towards the silhouettes I was more comfortable in.
