Dress Shopping Entourage - Who to Include?

Emily, on January 10, 2019 at 8:26 AM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 25

I'm still a ways off from dress shopping, but as I've thought more and more about it, I have to ask - Who do you take dress shopping with you? Will your bridal party be in attendance? What about your mother, grandmother, or mother-in-law? What do you envision your dress shopping experience to be like?

I will probably just take my mom and sister (MOH.) The less opinions, the better.

I brought my mother, mother-in-law, MOHs, and future sister-in-law. My dress shop only allowed a max of 4 people, but allowed me one extra. I didn’t want all my bridesmaids (5 of them) because that’s too many opinions and I want them to be surprised when they see me in the dress. I obviously knew my mom would come, I invited my MOHs because I knew they would be completely honest without being hurtful, and I wanted my future in-laws to be a part of it cause we’re very close. So that’s how I decided.
Overall you should choose a small group that you trust to be both honest and supportive!

I'm starting to hear that many places only allow a certain number of people to come with the bride. I definitely see how a large entourage can make a dress selection harder on the bride AND the consultant! Thanks for your input!

I've seen "Say Yes to the dress" & those people have like 59 people in there! Smiley laugh Haha!

Thank you for the input! I'm definitely torn between inviting my MIL or not because my fiancee is her only child and there are moments when I can tell she's excited to have a girl in her life. I want to invite her to include her, but we've also not had the best history. She's been pretty openly opinionated towards our decisions as a couple and I'm not sure if I would want her opinions, but I definitely want her to still feel included. Do you think you would have invited your future in-laws if you weren't as close as you are?

Just my mom and dad came with me! I’ll bring my bridesmaids to one of my fittings so they can see it (and learn how to bustle)! Smiley smile

I only took my mom & my MOH, just because I didn't want a bunch of other opinions to sway me away from what I really want.

I had 5 dress appointments at 5 different places! Two of them I went to by myself since they were very last minute appointments. I actually said yes to a dress during one of those that I went to by myself...sorta happy I did...let’s me keep it a surprise for everyone Smiley smile

the other appointments had my mom and 1 or 2 bridesmaids. I just told my bridal party that whoever wants to come is welcome

That's a good call on the bridesmaids coming to a fitting! Someone besides me should probably know how to bustle my dress!

I've toyed with the idea of keeping my bridesmaids out of the selection process to keep it a surprise for them and then capturing their reaction on our wedding day! Thanks for sharing!

I'm not having a bridal party so it I will be taking my mom, Future MIL, and my future SIL (one of my best friends). I may take a cousin or two if they aren't working. I could not imagine not taking his family, it's as important to them as it is to my own family (i might be biased because they treat me like i'm their own daughter). I'm not the type to care about anyones opinions though, i've always told my mom if she hates the dress then I know its the one for me lol

I went by myself first to get comfortable with the experience & find my voice. Then I did one trip with my mom & sister, and one trip with my mom & friend. I continued to shop on my own until I found the one.
