Dress shopping alone?

Hi ladies! I'm newly engaged and am gearing up to start making some appointments to try on wedding dresses, but I just realized that I don't really have anyone to go with me. Hi ladies! I'm newly engaged and am gearing up to start making some appointments to try on wedding dresses, but I just realized that I don't really have anyone to go with me. I don't have any super close girlfriends that I'd want to be there, and my mom lives across the country. Is it weird to go by yourself? Or am I overthinking it? TIA for any advice or opinions!

I didn't go alone but I wouldn't have been opposed to it, I'm doing the fittings alone and I've gotten all my accessories, picked my hair style, etc alone, but I kind of like it that way lol

I actually went by myself by choice. It's way less pressure, and you can try on as many as you want without feeling rushed or anything! Never buy the first one though - always sleep on it and maybe send pictures to your friends and family.

I went by myself and it was so stress and pressure free. I scheduled a second appointment to bring two friends to have them evaluate the top 3 I was able to narrow down. I'd be fine with any of the three but there is a strong leader. My consultant said with her experience it is always best to do the first one by yourself as it is less overwhelming for the bride.

I did the first round alone and brought my mom and stepfather the second time. I wanted to be sure of what I liked without anyone's opinion.

I went alone to narrow the search down (tried on over 20+ dresses), then I picked my top 3-5 dresses and brought my best friend back with me to help me choose the final dress. I highly recommend going alone because trying on so many dresses and taking the time to assess each one is exhausting and time-consuming. If someone or a group is with you, then you can easily be distracted or feel pressured about a dress that you really don't think is the one.

I went by myself. I actually preferred to do so. It made it easier for me to determine what I loved vs what everyone else did based on their reactions.

The first time I went was with family and friends and honestly it was awful! I went alone and found the dress of my dreams. There is no problem with going alone!

I've seen plenty of people at dress appointments alone. There's nothing weird about it! In some ways, I think it might be good because you don't have to worry about conflicting opinions telling you what you should and shouldn't buy. You can make the appointment completely about what you want to wear for your wedding.

Not weird at all, I went dress shopping alone and had the best time. It's cute to get others opinions but the overall decision is yours.

I went by myself the first time. I figured out what I liked then invited everyone a different day to show them. My mother was pissed but I felt it was productive rather than wasting their time watching me try on multiple styles. I found the style I liked and only tried on that style during their visit.

I went dress shopping by myself multiple times. I was able to try different shapes and i was able to choose which one looks good on me. I did FaceTime with my mom and took several photos of the dresses that I liked so that i can look at it afterwards and show it to my mom. Have fun shopping!

I chose to go alone the first time to get an idea of what I liked on my body. I don't think it's weird at all! Good luck!

I wish I had gone by myself. I ended up liking one dress and really liking a 2nd dress. My mom didn't like the 2nd dress so I didn't get it and I still have some small dress regret...

I think going alone could be great because you won't have other people's negative opinions swaying your decision

I am the same as you. In Pennsylvania and my gfs live in Atlanta and Florida.

My MIL went with me the first time. Fell in love with a dress and convinced me to put money on it. a month later I went back to the shop to try on ones I liked by myself and could not find one and could not get the money back so I bought a bridesmaid dress to wear on the beach in chiffon. I tried David's bridal and that was no help. by myself they tried pushing me into buying something then. After my 4th trip alone my FH said I am going with you to see what you think is so bad about these dresses. He hated all the ones I was trying on that were light beachy dresses. he fell in love with a AF Couture dress on display. I tried it on and he blushed and his jaw dropped.

so story told. take someone else to make you try on things out of your comfort zone.

I went with family the first time and I was worried about pleasing everyone, the second time I went by my self and found my dress right away, best decision I've made so far.

I wish I had gone alone just to clarify what I wanted, narrow it down, then bring others along for the final decision.

I went to one dress shopping appointment by myself. I had already started looking at dresses and knew this bridal shop carried my favorite designer. They didn't have any open weekend appointments for that weekend, so I took a lunch time appointment and ran there from work real quick.

It wasn't weird or awkward at all! It was actually super efficient Smiley smile I tried on way more gowns, because I was able to go through them quickly and and not waste any time on gowns I wasn't sure on. The person who helped me at the bridal shop was amazing. She was SO helpful, took tons of pictures on my iphone for me in the dresses, and just really went out of her way to make me comfortable.

Personally - eventually I'll need some other people's opinions Smiley smile But you can always post your top dress choices here in the forums and ask for feedback or help choosing!!
