Dress regret

Kiyome, on June 6, 2021 at 1:36 AM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 37
Today I went and tried on wedding dresses. I originally had 2 appointments, but after I found, "The one" at the first appointment, I bought the dress I loved and canceled my second appointment. I really loved the dress and how I felt in it and every time I tried on other dresses they looked beautiful, but whenever I would try "the one" on I'd get that feeling and when I would walk out of the dressing room my jaw would drop and I would love it. So I ended up getting the dress because it gave me that feeling. I had my best friend take pictures of me in the dress as well as the others. Well, I goofed and didn't even look at the photos before I bought the dress and I just feel like I picked the wrong dress because I saw the photos and immediately thought "Wow. Did I pick the wrong dress? The other dresses looked so much better on me." I am super conflicted and don't know what to do. I don't want to look back at our wedding photos and just see how bad I looked. I am struggling a lot right now because we all loved it so much in person. In fact, there was another bride trying on dresses in the dressing room and her mom started crying because of how the dress looked on me. We all thought it was GORGEOUS! But I'm really not seeing it in the photos🙁 what should I do?? And something that makes it even harder is my mom paid for a a portion of the dress cost after I picked out the dress I wanted, so I don't want to upset or disappoint anyone

I'm not sure how we can help you if you don't show us "the one"...

The same thing happened to me. I ended up making another appointment to try it on again and even tried on some others. I stuck with it and I’m confident I look gorgeous in it. I do however think I probably could have found another if I tried.
If it was yesterday, call them back and ask to try it on again and if you have doubts you could probably still cancel or use the deposit towards another dress.

I’d still call them. If you like the shop see if they will just transfer the balance to another dress.

You felt beautiful for a reason though and people obviously saw it. It’s hard to wait and see how it all comes together but I’m sure you won’t regret your choice.

You look gorgeous in both dresses. AND they are quite similar in style. I am with the other brides ~ Call the shop if nothing else you can go back & try the dress on to put your worries to rest ~ IF after you try it again you don't have "that" feeling talk to them about transferring the amount paid to a different dress from the same shop.

Yeah I might have to call on Monday, when they are open again. But usually a place doesn't refund or let you cancel because they send the order in to the designer and make the dress just for you. They also highlighted the no exchange, return, or refunds on the contract. I just feel like an idiot that I didn't sleep on it before I decided

You look stunning in both dresses. Keep in mind that the first one is clearly a candid photo and will photograph differently at your wedding with better lighting, professional camera, alterations, etc. If you had that "this is THE ONE" feeling, and everyone else was telling you how gorgeous it was, it must have been for a reason!

But if you're absolutely set on regret, check and see if the store will give you credit to switch to a different dress.

I also tried on another dress that was off the shoulder and entirely different style from the others and that one was also stunning

Thank you🙂 yeah and I keep telling my fiance that I look at the photos and don't feel confident in my choice like when I had it on, and he reminds me of the professional photos too and that they will look different in comparison to photos from a phone. I just see how the other dresses look in comparison to the one I said yes to and don't feel confident in my choice and almost disappointed.

I worked in bridal for three years. Phone photos really don’t do dresses justice. I think you look gorgeous, and how you feel in the dress is the most important. If you can, I’d go try your dress on again, and take some more posed pictures (like in the second dress), and most importantly, see if you still get “the one” feeling in it. Also, be upfront with the salon about how you’re feeling! The shop I worked at had a similar contract, but we always wanted our brides to be happy, and would occasionally switch orders. Orders made on the weekend typically don’t go in until Monday morning anyway (depending on the designer) so I would call back as soon as possible.

Yeah I will call them on Monday. I hope everything turns out okay. I really don't want to look at wedding photos later and regret the dress I wore

Honestly, since it’s worrying you so much I would call and leave a message so they hear it first thing before they go to place weekend orders. Do you know the designer of the dress?

You look stunning in both dresses! I wouldn't doubt yourself because of a cell phone picture. What you felt and saw when you tried it on is how you will feel on your wedding day. You can always return to the store to try it on again and see if it helps ease your worries.

I found it, it’s the Madison James MJ662. Madison James is a line from Allure Bridals, and at least when I worked in the industry they only did phone orders during the business week.

You can always see if you can exchange it for a different dress. Also remember that you aren't all done up with your complete wedding look Veil, hair, makeup, jewelry etc. Those pieces really complete the whole bridal look and can change the way you see yourself in the dress.

I do know about dress regret though. I bought a plain mermaid style dress before covid happened and really loved it when I saw myself in person with it on. But after looking at pictures of me in it, I just didn't feel like I was a bride. I ended up exchanging it for a big fancy poofy dress something I'd never would have tried on. I feel in love with my new dress and even when I look at photos of myself in the dress I know it's the one.
