Dress Regret

Joany, on August 22, 2019 at 11:06 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 1 47
Alright ladies...I’m having my third bout of dress regret. I keep going back and forth with this and I have no idea what to do. I am almost exactly 5 months out (our date is 1/25/20), so I’m sure finding a new dress will be difficult, but not impossible. My dress and cathedral veil are expected to arrive in November, so I know I can’t wait until then to keep looking if that’s what I decide to do. I think my biggest issue is I want more poof (should’ve gone for a ball gown, not to a line). What would you suggest...go to a few stores and try some more on? Also thinking I chose the wrong veil (the veil I chose is the one in the last picture, not pictured with my dress). Or stick with what I have and hope a seamstress can give me what I’m looking for? Has anyone had luck with bridal shops working with you after signing a final sale contract? Attached photos are my current dress
any advice will be appreciated!!

Your dress is beautiful! Is your only concern the puffyness of it? If so, I second the PP, try adding layers to it maybe before getting a new dress. Can you go back to the salon and test out a sample with one and try the veil on again?

Poofy-ness is my main concern, then that the veil doesn’t match as well as the one I tried on with the dress. I ordered my veil after my dress as I wasn’t 100% sure if I wanted to go cathedral length at first. When I went in for my veil appointment, they told me my dress had been discontinued and they took the sample off of the floor. So I had to choose my veil without the dress.

Maybe if I reach out to the seamstress she can look at photos and tell me if she thinks extra tulle or crinoline will work.

The dress and veil are amazing. I’m sure you'll look gorgeous in anything. If more of a ball grown is what you want, I’d go dress shopping and if by November you haven’t found the one you want then I’d look into how to make the current one more fluffy. You can always sale the dress and veil on websites like Facebook marketplace and posh mart if the shop can’t or is unwilling to work with you and that way it’s not a total loss money wise. Good luck!

You can see if you can add crinoline. That’s what I’m doing for the bottom of my dress. I had always pictured a ball gown but when I picked a trumpet style I couldn’t help but feel cheated of the poof. So they had me try it on with a slip petticoat thing and during alterations they can add crinoline to the bottom to give it some poof. 1st picture is without the crinoline, second picture is with.

Hi! You look beautiful in the dress, but it is you who need to love it. I think it’s okay to look around for another. It wouldn’t be the first time a bride ends up
with more than one dress. Go shop around and see, you might go back to this beauty!

I’m agreeing with the other brides.
You’ve got a lot of skirt, hun, there’s plenty enough skirt to be able to handle a fuller petticoat. Before you panic and buy another dress, go get a petticoat and try it on with your dress. My dress is A-line without and definitely a ballgown with.

That dress is beautiful on you!! I’d maybe put something under it if you want more poof. Or maybe an overskirt you can take off. I feel like for the reception you won’t want a lot of poof anyways????

That dress is so pretty on you!!! 😍😍 I was in your position going back and forth with dress regret but do you really want to go through the stress of finding a dress in a short amount of time? Just go back and think about the day you chose the dress. That feeling when you knew it was the one and you HAD to have it. I fall in love with my dress all over again just thinking about the moment. I mean, I still have dress regret and want to buy ALL the dresses but I know I can’t and I just remind myself of the feeling from that day I said yes to the dress. Smiley smile

The dress is gorgeous on you! Have you tried looking to see if another boutique still has your dress so you can try it on again? Sometimes the feeling of putting the dress back on gives you that sparkle and good feeling of finding the one!

Try adding a petticoat or extra tulle underneath! My dress is a line and I was also considering wanting bigger, tried it on with a petticoat and it works perfect! Also gives you the option to take out that layer later in the night/during reception to be more comfortable!

I love the veil and think it would look amazing with your dress. If you feel the skirt should be poofier, you could a petticoat that adds volume to your skirt. It wouldn't hurt to look at dresses but compare them to your first. You may find none truly do.
