Dress regret..help

Caylyn, on June 24, 2019 at 3:42 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 6
I went dress shopping right after getting engaged (in December) since my sister was home and she is not able to come up very often. After trying on endless dresses, I finally found one that I loved and put a nonrefundable deposit down. My wedding is in October 2020 and I know it was super early to go dress shopping but i loved the style of the dress. This past weekend, I went to Kleinfeld's for my mom to look for a mother of the bride dress since she loves the show. Since we were there she made me try on dresses too ( she later admitted she wasn't sold on the one i put a deposit down on in December). Of course I found a dress I like better than my original. I can't stop thinking about it and my mom LOVES it. She put a deposit down on this one as well. Now I am more confused and feeling guilty. What is your opinion. Do I try to get out of the first dress, go through with it since the contract says no refunds, wear both dresses and do a dress change or mix and match since the first is separates or try and sell it. Any advice would be great! Thanks so much!

You could totally do two dresses! I had even considered one for ceremony and one for reception myself too.
I think though it also depends on how much that deposit was and how much you have to pay left. I wouldn't want you to feel obligated to have both just because you paid deposits on them. But I understand it if the deposits were large and there's not too much left to pay

I would check with your original store to see if they can cancel the order and apply your deposit to accessories instead. Maybe you can get a nice veil there with the money? That being said, if you ordered in December the dress is likely en-route. You probably won't be able to get out of it if that's the case. I would try and sell it online on a pre-owned site (without altering it first). Go with the one you love!

I’m all about having what you love and if your mom loves it to that’s great. I guess it depends on whether not the deposit you put down on the first one is something you’re willing to lose. If it is then go with the one you want. Personally I love the 2nd one better too but they are both beautiful. Good luck!

It’s up to you but I love the second one! It’s elegant and timeless. You could always switch dresses for the reception. As others have mentioned, try calling the salon. It’s been 6 months, so I am not sure how much you can get back since the dress is probably close to being done.

I had this problem too and ended up losing my deposit for the first dress. You could wear two dresses. One for the ceremony and one for the reception

Hey Caylyn! Have you decided what to do about your two beautiful dresses?
