Dress opinions? Short vs long?

Josie, on May 3, 2015 at 11:58 AM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 17

I'm getting married next year, and trying to decide on a dress! Smiley smile I'm not sure whether to go with a longer dress, or to be a bit more fun and try a shorter style of dress. I'm about 5'6", but I have pretty short legs in comparison to the rest of my body. I found a couple styles I like on www.faya8.com, but not sure which I like more. I figured a shorter dress would be easier, and probably cooler to wear in the warm weather (I'm thinking of having an outdoor wedding). Has anyone went with a shorter gown before? Did you regret not going with a longer, more "traditional" kind of gown? Any help would be highly appreciated!

There's really no sense in deciding on a style until you try dresses on. Most people end up with something different than what they initially thought when they actually try on dresses. I think tea length is beautiful but so is long. Go have some fun and see what you like Smiley smile

I think those dresses are pretty but personally on my wedding day I can't imagine wearing anything other than a long dress. This is your one chance to be able to really dress up and have a stunning gown. I think those tea length dresses you could wear to any other formal occasion or even someone else's wedding. Try them all on and see what you like, but I think long is the way to go.

I agree that you need to actually try dresses on in person to get a feel of what you want!

There are a few brides around the forums who wore shorter, tea-length dresses like the ones pictured, and were absolutely happy with their decision. I would suggest going and trying on both long and short dresses, though, before you decide. Even if you want to order from online, it would be helpful for you to get a sense of how they look/feel beforehand.

Ok so I am not saying you are a troll but you are like the 3rd person today that mentioned faya8.com and that 2nd dress was in the other posts as well. So I am definitely suspicious. I am mobile so I can't check out your profile. Can anyone take a glimpse?

You will really need to try on dresses to compare what styles what look best on you. However, IMHO short or tea length dresses are much more casual and "party" than a traditional long dress. If you think about it, you can wear a white tea length dress to a garden party but you can only wear a long wedding dress once.

Thanks @Moonride. It's just odd that there were other threads raving about that website and had the same dress posted. Just checking. I hate spam.

I agree, you need to try on dresses. Sometimes you may like a style but not like it on. I always thought I would wear a mermaid dress but when I tried it on I hated it Smiley sad

I agree with the other ladies about trying dresses on first. I had a certain style in mind when I went dress shopping the first time...even the second time and I ended up with a dress I wouldn't have really thought I'd end up in, but I absolutely love it Smiley smile

I do like the tea-length dresses though and think they are fun and maybe even more comfortable than a long gown, but it is your day and your look. Have to do what works best for you!

I absolutely loved my knee length dress! I had no issues with it. And everyone loved how "me" it was. I definitely suggest to try them!

My dress is a tea length dress. I tried on several styles of dress and found that the tea length was more "me". It better matches the tone of my wedding than a long dress and I don't have to worry about it dragging in the grass. I agree with all the others who have said that you should try on multiple styles.

Also, I know that it's maybe the one chance you have to wear a long wedding gown, but you should go with what you like best. People say the same thing about a veil and I'm not wearing one of those either, except maybe a birdcage.

Most faya8 mentioning posts are indeed spam. I wouldn't consider it a credible site, just fyi. That being said, don't judge your body without trying on some things to be sure. You might find a long dress that flatters your leg length better, or vise versa. If you have "that feeling" in a dress, don't second guess yourself on it. My dress is a hi-low dress, I knew I wanted something kind of different and I'm so excited to get it that I couldn't imagine thinking I should go with something else. Some might judge me for it, but at the end of the day you have to get what you want.

I hate to say it but I agree with Melissa. And you DEFINITELY need to try them on.

But I also think you are a troll.

I really wanted a short dress but once I tried some on in a store I hated how I looked in them. Go try some styles on to be sure of what you want. Don't buy online. It was a huge failure for me.
