Curious about if most brides need their dress hemmed? I’m 5’7” and when I ordered my dress they mentioned I’ll need it hemmed or wear heels to give me a few more inches. My dress is a Stella York. I’m wondering how much it’ll need to be hemmed. I’m really scared about losing the detail in the...

I’m wondering how much it’ll need to be hemmed. I’m really scared about losing the detail in the scallops. 😬 my seamstress said not to bring it in until 3 months beforehand (I recently ordered it so it won’t be done till this Summer anyway) and I’m planning on losing more weight. But now my brain is all about shoes. Did any of you either hem your dress or did you buy heels? If you opted for heels- how tall did you go?

Some dresses can have the skirt length adjusted from the waist. A good seamstress will know what needs to be done

I'm almost 5'2.. My dress will be hemmed quite a bit. I made sure to not get a dress that had detail at the bottom because of this.

I have to have my dress hemmed. I'm 5'4 and wearing flats. Let me tell you how scary that was watching her mark where she was going to make her cuts.

I’ve heard of dresses being hemmed at the waist, but the waist of mine is see through, so it isn’t an option. 😬

fingers crosssed I’m tall enough! They did not give me the option of a detached hem at the bottom. Maybe I should call and ask before it’s too late.

In my experience, they don't usually discuss how they alter the dress, like their specific methods, you just discuss what is going to be done. So just because they didn't specifically tell you removing then reattaching the lace is what they plan to do, doesn't mean they're not already planning on it. They know what they're doing, and if they're doing a hem, just trust them, and don't worry about the "how" so much.

My dress shop doesn’t do alterations so I have to take it to someone.
