Dress help!

Euphemia, on August 25, 2022 at 1:44 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 9
Hello! I’m feeling anxious and depressed because my dress doesn’t fit like it did when I tried it on at the store. I don’t feel pretty in the actual one but I did in the one I tried on. I’ve gained weight (it’s one size bigger), and ordered it in a petite size (it was a regular size when I tried it on), AND it’s in a different color which might look less flattering. Please let me know what I could do to salvage my dress. I was thinking of wearing shorter heels so that it could drape and look longer in the front, and I’m planning on losing a few pounds to feel lighter in it. Also the top of the dress feels like it’s too much coverage — what’s your opinion on that? Thank you so much for your time and help! First pic is trying it on for the first time (in size 8 Champaign), second pic is my actual dress that arrived (in size 10 petite ivory)Dress help! 1Dress help! 2

The two things and jump out at me right away is that the waist is a bit higher in the first one, which better accentuates the smallest part of your waistline. The second thing is that all the details of the lace really pop with the darker underlay in the first photo, whereas they get lost on the ivory dress. ,And, just my opinion, but I enjoy the sleeveless on you better than the long sleeves.

I agree with Cece! Maybe see if your seamstress can bring up the waistline a little bit, and remove the sleeves IMO. If you can fork over the $$, ask the seamstress if there is any way to bring the hem down? It may require adding additional fabric, but if its worth it to you, then do it! Honestly, you look incredible in both pictures. I love them both and I hope you can take a step back and see the beauty, too!

I actually love the long sleeves 😍 but I agree the belt and the waist are hitting you at the wrong place.

The first thing I noticed was the skirt falls very differently when there is no train to help it drape. Perhaps a petticoat ir crinoline layer would give it the wider A-line shape it had when you first tried it on.

I noticed the skirt too. It could also be the type of pedestal theyre standing on. It looks like the first one is pretty large and allows the dress to flare on it, the second looks like the dress kind of just drops straight down over it.

Fully agree. I think the longer torso completely changes the cut of the dress.

Is your dress bustled in the second photo? I agree with Grace that the train gives the skirt more flare. That could be fixed fairly easily by adding something underneath. I also think Elycia has a point about the pedestal contributing to the two dresses looking different as well.

I personally LOVE the look of the ivory! I think it gives the lace a shimmery look, and it'll look great under lights (from the picture, it seems like the room is a bit darker). If the sleeves are bothering you, it shouldn't be a heavy lift for a seamstress to remove them either.

Having dress regret/ stress is totally normal, and any tweaks to the things you mentioned are all doable Smiley smile you're dress still looks great though btw Smiley smile

My seamstress made my dress TOO short!!! I was flipping out, I thought there was no way she could possibly add length.

    But she did.

    Good luck!!!

Ps. I notice in the first pic, it looks like there is an “over skirt” like some sort of draping on the sides of your waist. I don’t see that in the second pic.

The belt definitely needs to sit higher, but the first picture looks like it has *way* more fabric in the skirt. It's all overlapping itself and looks thick, but the second picture doesn't seem to have as much fabric?

Hi all thank you all so much for the thoughts about my dress situation I haven't had the chance to respond. I totally agree about the belt looking better sitting higher but it doesn't have the same effect on the Ivory one. Also I agree that the Champagne one looks more full with fabric and has a better overskirt style. I honestly think all of these problems are because the dress is petite-sized! Thankfully, with God's help I was able to reorder the dress to get here on time in regular size, in Champagne, and in my size! I am so thankful and grateful for this.
