Dress help!

Molly, on June 8, 2020 at 7:26 AM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 20
So I am supposed to be getting married November 7th 2020. Because of this situation that were in right now we may move it to May 8 2021 depending what happens in the next few weeks. My county just turned yellow but we are still having a lot of cases of COVID. Also I feel that a second wave could happen in the fall.

I bought my dress in November of last year. I love it but it has so much beading on it that two seamstress declined to touch it. My fear is I will not be able to get it altered in time if my wedding is in November. I also fear that it's going to cost more than my actual address so in that case I may have to get a another dress and spell the one I have.
I am at a loss at this point.

I think the dress looks beautiful and not exactly sure why you need to get an altered because I think it fits you very well.

I would just continue to call more and more seamstresses. Does the boutique you bought it from have a seamstress? Normally if they sell it, they're willing to alter it.

Agree with Elizabeth, whoever sold it, should have someone who is able to do alterations. the alterations do look minor so a six week window for them should be good. Late August early September you should be having the alterations done.

They have clips on the back pulling it tight. Also the top is sagging and the bottom is long and needs to be cut and fixed.

I think you'd be able to get it altered in time if you can do it by august-september or so. maybe they can refer you to someone who would be able to alter it?

Your dress is beautiful. I don't see why any dress would be made with the mindset of it not being able to get altered. If you can find someone who would be willing to alter it, I'm sure you'd get it done in time but it would probably have to be in the next couple months or so. If it's cutting too close and you still haven't found anyone, you can always try selling it on Stillwhite. It's a bridal resale website that I got my dress from. Good luck!

Ask the boutique for a list of recommended seamstresses in your area. They always have one. Good luck!

Hi love! i would get a few "second opinions" from other seamstresses near you. i happen to have a qualified and experienced seamstress who is not afraid of any challenge and knows her stuff. one of my dresses was fully beaded top to bottom and had to be completely torn apart (all beading in altered areas had to be removed for her to successfully alter the fabric). after she altered the dress to fit my body, she sewed each bead back on individually. it was definitely a time consuming process and would likely be somewhat expensive depending on the seamstress, but i got lucky as my seamstress is retired and does it on the side now so she only charged $20. most seamstresses will work with you price-wise. however, you will have some options so i definitely would seek opinions from other seamstresses. most of them are qualified and not at all afraid of a challenge as any item of clothing has the potential to be altered. it just requires someone who is qualified to do so, especially where wedding dresses are concerned. you should have plenty of time for alterations if you guys are planning on november. dont be discouraged!!! btw - love the dress! its beautiful. hope that helps 😊

Thanks. I was actually able to call the place I ordered the dress from. They just opened up and I made an appointment with the seamstress next week. I'm hoping she can do it.

Typically bridal salons have seamstress recommendations who they often work with. Check with your salon or any other salon. A good bridal seamstress knows how to alter your dress, since there are many beaded bridal gowns out there.
