Dress Help

Roxana, on May 29, 2019 at 10:02 AM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 17

Hi guys,

Sorry to make the same post for the millionth time but I'm having a really hard time finding a cover-up for my dress. I really don't like my upper arms and always pictured getting a dress with long sleeves. And while I absolutely love my dress, it's strapless.

I need something to cover my arms during our ceremony and reception (thinking something pretty shear with delicate embroidery/details). I have a knit ruana shawl to keep me warm during outdoor pictures (ceremony is outdoors in the morning in late October) but want something to cover me for the rest of the time without hiding my dress/sweetheart neck. Really hate the look of bolero jackets and am hoping to stay under $50.

Can somebody please just point me in a stylistic direction? Shawl? Shrug? Poncho? Cape? Pics are also really helpful!

Yes I actually really like the look of those as well as these!

But honestly I'm an Inverted triangle shape and I've heard that off the shoulder makes you look wider, which is why I've steered clear of them. Really don't want to look any wider than I already am Smiley sad

I think a sheer or tulle capelet would be your best bet here. Check etsy and see if there is anything there you like.

Thanks! I was thinking this too but FH seems to think they look a bit odd. I'll definitely look around more though

I think he'll come around when we sees the whole look. As long as you get something that compliments the dress, he'll end up happy I think.

I have! I started my search looking for a topper but really I think I'm too picky/can't find one I like in my price range.

What about getting a dress with long sleeves?

Can you add straps and sleeves to that dress?

$50 won't cover much. If your budget was closer to $100 you could try to get something custom made on Etsy?

Here is some inspo. These all still show the sweetheart neckline.

Honestly guys I'm wondering if I could just get away with wearing a good veil? I heard a poster on here say something about some veils being great for hiding arms. It'll be a brunch wedding so I won't have to worry about it getting in the way of dancing. Thoughts?

I had my heart set on the middle topper for monthssssss. I've tried it on in store and actually that's my dress that it's being modeled with! But I'm really hoping to keep the budget around $50 and that topper is in the mid 100s.

I know it's out of your range but I did the exact same thing with my dress for the exact same reason, I got a dress topper from DB for $130, they had a sale (I think at the time it was $25 off $100+). Here's a before (when I bought a mesh jacket and thought I would settle for it eventually) and after with the dress topper that I added some alteration to.

Aww it looks amazing with your dress!
I actually ended up settling on a tulle shawl this past week. Hopefully it won't be too annoying to carry around!

I'm so sorry I had no idea how old this post was (not that a week is old, but I thought it was within a few days haha) Tulle is light though! Shouldn't be a hassle
