Dress Help Please :)

Ari, on August 4, 2022 at 6:59 AM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 19
Hello,
I will be getting married in November of 2023. I recently found my dress and I love it. Well, I loved the love pattern of it and how it layed on my body. However, I’m slightly disappointed in the fact I didn’t end up with a dress with sleeves. I thought I’d reach out to fellow brides and get their input. I am still trying to drop some weight and I feel a little self-conscious to show photos of myself. So, I will attach a similar photo I found on Pinterest of the side area that’s similar to the dress I picked. I’ve been debating to ask if sleeves can be added. I don’t think I’ll be able to have sleeves added due to how sheer it is (I’ll circle the area I’m talking about in the photo). I just thought I’d reach out to some fellow brides and get opinions. I love the dress I picked. I just always thought I’d have a dress with sleeves and I don’t think that’s obtainable anymore. I just thought I’d get some opinions on this! I do love the dress aside from the lack of sleeves. Thank you all and have a wonderful day! Dress Help Please :) 1

I would get on Etsy and look at attachable sleeves! I fell in love with tulle sleeves and wished I could add them to my dress, but it wouldn't make any sense lol. Without seeing your full dress I don't think I could help you pick a type of sleeve, but you could always take it to a seamstress and ask them what your options are!

Thank you! Like I said I’m a little self-conscious right now. But I did look on the dress designers Instagram and found the dress I got on model they posted. I’ll drop it below.
I will follow up with a seamstress as well. I just wanted a few opinions about the sleeves from fellow brides. But thank you for your input! Smiley smile Dress Help Please :) 2

Oooh. I'm honestly not sure if adding sleeves would be possible for this, but oh my god...that dress is INCREDIBLE. While I completely understand being self conscious, I think regardless of any one girls size, they're going to look incredible in the dress they love. As a PT, I know that encouragement from others doesn't always help, but sometimes it does...so I want you to know that nobody but you is going to pay a drop of attention to your arms, which I can guarantee are perfectly normal. You're going to look STUNNING. Smiley heart

    Hey Ari!

Your dress looks unreal! I used to work in bridal fashion and trust me when I say EVERY single girl had an issue with their arms. The smallest brides were self conscious for some reason. We are so harsh on ourselves for no reason Smiley smile

If sleeves were something you just cant get out of your head I would advise trying a jacket with the dress ( would it be possible to come back to the store and ask to do it?). It might not look right but would give you a slight idea of what your arms will look like covered. Maybe it will turn out, that you don't want it after all. A seamstress would have to reconstruct the top quite a lot to achieve it so it will cost a pretty penny I'm afraid.

And in fairness sleeves would just take away from it in my opinion!

You will look amazing I'm sure,

Best of luck on your big day!

Have you thought of adding a bolero over the top? I did this for my first wedding, because I was Mormon and they do not wear sleeveless clothing. Lots of options for these:

    Sheer

    Lace

    Shawl Style

    You get the picture!

Have you ordered the dress already? When I found mine, it had a deep v in the front with a piece of mesh down the middle. I loved the dress except for the deep v, and they were able to order it with the v seamed closed. The place you ordered from might be able to have the sides seamed together so the mesh on the sides of the bodice isn't there. That could make it look right with sleeves added on.

So hear me out, but wedding capes are starting to become a thing (they are pretty much just a veil alternative). I’m not sure if that would be your style, but I’m sure you could find one on Etsy that would work with the dress.

I did order the dress. Before ordering it, I asked about that and they said that is not able to be done. Smiley sad

The seamstress doing your alterations can add sleeves with little to no problems. It’s a pretty common request for them.

Hey! I just came across this dress on Pinterest by accident. Essential mine would look the same If sleeves are added. So I think it’s possible! Just thought I’d update you! Smiley smile Dress Help Please :) 3

Hey! Just wanted to update ya! If you look at my comments I actually found a dress that has a similar bodice as mine that as sleeves. Smiley smile so it’s definitely possible!

That's great news. Is the plan still to modify the dress you have or to go with this other one?

I really want to add sleeves. So I think I’m going to. So I hope it looks good! I was happy to find a similar style like my dress that did have sleeves. It was a good example. Smiley smile
