Dress Drama: 6 weeks away and no dress

Mrsbdg, on July 1, 2017 at 9:14 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 58

Hi everyone. I need some advice on what I should do. I ordered my dress way back in December and it sort of slipped my mind. Earlier last week I called the dress store since I haven't heard from them and they told me that my size 24 wedding dress was in. I freaked out because I ordered a 12. On Friday they told me they found a 12 and when I asked for the tracking # so I knew the millisecond it arrived at the store. The tracking number was wrong. I called the store and they provided me another wrong tracking number. I called a third time & they stated they lost the tracking number. I asked for the ETA & they stated they would call me back. I called the store 3 times today and it just rang with no answer (they were open). I'm six weeks out with no dress. I haven't had a fitting. They won't answer me and the store is 4 hours from my house. A friend offered to go with me to VOWS in MA to pick a new dress. I'm so stressed! I don't know if I should just give up on a non-communicative store?

If you haven't given this store any of your money, I would suggest that you start shopping around.

    Yep I agree with PP.

Edit: I just saw your response. I still think you need to go find a dress elsewhere.

Ask for a refund for all the issues and high tail it somewhere else. Even if they get the dress in, you may also have issues getting it altered in such short time if they are already giving you issues. I wouldn't risk it.

Aside from VOWS, does anyone know of a place in MA, CT, NY, NJ, PA, or DE that sells designer dress that you get to take home that day? I had tried David's Bridal but hated the experience and the gowns did not flatter me.

I know there is a place in York, PA called Twice Upscale Resale- they are a consignment shop. But fortunately, all their dresses are in fantastic condition.

I spoke to the owners there and they have contracts with private bridal shops. They accept the dresses from the bridal shops to resell there. They have great pricing too.

They are on Facebook and instagram.

OMG! What a nightmare?! I agree with the other posters, and I would go out shopping ASAP. I would be afraid to wait to see if they end up getting "your dress" in.

I went to Irini's Originals in DE and took my size 16 dress home that day. Nikki the owner is amazing. Might be worth a shot!

Party Dress Express (might be a little far for you, it's closer to the RI side of things) in Fall River, MA. I just went last weekend. They are currently doing a renovation and are closed I believe for just a few days this week. But they have TONS of dresses for amazing prices thanks to the renovation. Not sure if they'll still offer it when they reopen but they had 30-50% off all cash and carry bridal gowns with LOTS of beautiful options in all sizes! The consultants are AWESOME and you can make an appointment right online!

ETA: most of the dresses are under $1,000 (some even before discounts!). I bought a $1,700 Maggie Sottero practically brand new for $900!

I'm going to repeat this in every thread its applicable. Lol. The National Bridal Sale. Check their website to see what shops are participating in your area. The dresses will be off of the rack and 15-85% off on July 15. They have a Facebook page too and I saw MA.

Thank you to everyone who answered. I called the store this morning on a whim and a store assistant told me the dress is guaranteed to arrive (no tracking # to give me though) on 8/8/2017. When I told her I wanted to cancel the dress she told me she can't. I asked to speak to the manager but she stated she wasn't in. I told her I want a refund and she said they don't refund anything if the store is not at fault. How is the store not at fault?! Do I have any way of getting my money back??

They are at fault for ordering the wrong dress. 8/8 isnt enough time for you to be 100000% sure thats the dress! That's only 10 days incase something happens. I would demand my tracking number or demand my money. I suggest taking the 4 hour(i believe you said) trip and going back to that shop and speaking in person. It's harder for them to give you the run around on the phone

If you do end up searching for a new dress, I got my dress from Clever Bride in Holliston, MA (where we're also getting married) and highly, highly recommend. I bought the first dress I tried on which fit like a glove and made me feel amazing, and got to take it home that day, and it was a Maggie Sottero sample (never been worn down the aisle) at half the regular retail price! The woman who owns it is so friendly and professional.

ETA: The dress arriving on 8/8 only gives you about a week for alterations, which is not enough time. They are at fault for ordering you the wrong size, and providing incorrect information about the shipping.

Google wedding gown sample sales in your areas. I walked home with my dress the day of purchase.
