Dress change at the reception?

Tanya, on July 14, 2020 at 8:53 PM

Hey Beautiful Brides to Be, is anyone deciding on a dress/outfit change for their reception? My FH hasn’t seen my dress but has suggested that I change into a comfortable outfit for the reception. What are you gals doing?

😲 that’s amazing! Where did you find such a dress? I’m dress shopping now and have been looking everywhere for a dress that can zip off the train. I even started loosing hope and thinking I may have to get a dress custom made.

The reception goes by so quickly before you even know it. If you love your dress, my vote is to keep on. The night could fly by while you’re having fun, and you could end up not changing at all. I think he’ll understand when you knock him dead in your gown! 😉

Aww, he saw your dress already?? It's supposed to be a secret 😉
I made a forum post asking the same thing but a few helpful ladies talked me out of it. My dress is really expensive and I'm only wearing it for one night. I want to be able to wear it for one night. My dress can be bustled up which is what I plan on doing. I would really give it a second thought. Try to move around in your dress (especially sitting) to see how you feel. In my opinion though, I highly recommend staying in your dress.

No he hasn’t seen my dress. No way! He was just suggested a comfortable outfit if my dress wasn’t. He wants me to be comfortable during the festivities because he knows I LOVE to dance lol 😂

You'll probably want to stay in your dress all night. Maybe just bring comfy shoes to change into if your feet get tired.

I am not. I want to look like a full-on bride all night. also, our ceremony is going to be short and right at the venue, so there wouldn’t be enough time to really do a change. But I’d say whatever YOU are going to feel best in all night is the way to go!

I’m not changing for the reception since I’ll only have one day to wear my dress and want to wear it for as long as possible. I might, however, be changing before we head to the bar at the hotel for the after party once the reception has ended. That part of the night will be really casual.

No way was I changing after all the money I spent on my dress. It wasn’t too uncomfortable for the reception. The ceremony is so short, if I had changed I feel like it would have been a waste.

What other people stated that if you are uncomfortable then change but when you think about it it’s only one day and this is probably the only time you will wear a wedding dress. I won’t change because I have been waiting to wear mine for over a year now and wanted to take this experience with me and cherish it. ❤️

Reality shows and certain cultures where dress changes are expected are the only ones who do this in real life. The media wants women to believe it is more common than it is, coupled with the fact that you only wear a wedding dress one day out of your life at a very high price tag. Most people don't want to spend that much for something to only wear for less than an hour. Get a lightweight fabric that breathes and does not restrict movement and rock the dress all day.

I’m staying in my same dress for the reception. But we are leaving for our honeymoon (2hr drive) directly after the reception, so I plan to change into a vintage white dress for our departure and travels.
