Dress bunching that I hate! Help!

Andrea, on October 18, 2017 at 12:35 AM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 11

My dress bunches in my lower stomach area..this is before alterations, but my alterations lady said there is no way to fix that and it has to be that loose in order for me to move and sit comfortably. I still feel that this is pretty extreme of bunching but I've already paid her for all the other alterations and can't keep spending more. Any suggestions to get rid of this? She is taking in the sides, tightening around my hips and butt, and hemming.. do you think this will help at all? Was there actually something she could have done to fix that?! What do I do!!?

You are starting your alterations this early?

    I'd try shapewear maybe?

Mine kinda does that too. Honestly I don't find it that noticeable. Try practicing standing up very straight with shoulders back (like trying to touch shoulder blades together). This proper poise with mine got rid of the bunching- and makes you look taller and thinner!

Just curious why you're doing alterations so early. I was going to wait until Februaryish.

I think taking it in around the hips would help. I wonder if it's a length thing and once she adjusts it for your height and hips it'll fit better?

ETA- the dress looks great on you btw!

Also, I forgot mine bunched more because it was sagging at my hips from not being held up in the chest region. When I added padded cups it helped get rid of a lot of bunching because it pulled up the dress. You could try that.

That's the tricky part of fit & flare/mermaid gowns. I think it looks fine the way it is though. You definitely want to be able to sit comfortably.

I'm not sure what bunching your talking about. It looks like you're walking or leaning forward in the picture to me. So the bunching might be happening because you're moving? which no matter how tight you make it might still happen and dress movement can't be helped.

Does the bunching still happen when you stand up straight?

Thanks for all the comments ladies! Yes I am walking in this picture, it isn't as bad when I stand straight. It just one of those things I keep staring at in my pictures. I did alterations this early because I was offered 30% off to book this month from a deal going on. I am going back again in march and again in June for 2nd and 3rd, and she will continue to adjust my dress for my shape at that point.

It looks beautiful! I wouldn't do too much taking in, you don't want it to be too small. My dress is fit & flare and when I tried it on the sample was a size 4, it went on, but it was tight and super uncomfortable. Not to mention a dress that is too small shows every little flaw.

My dress is the same style and it does that too. No one will notice.

I definitely think its mostly due to movement and you won't be able to help that no matter how tight she makes your dress.

Just try to relax - no one is going to notice or care! It's easy to get sucked in and stressed about little details but it won't be something you ever think about in the long run!
