Dress Anxiety

Marissa, on November 21, 2019 at 8:43 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 7
I ordered my dress last month. When I tried on the sample it was a size 10 and it was a little too big and I could probably go down a size. They took my measurements and had me try on an 8 and we ended up ordering an 8. I never looked at the size chart myself. After going dress shopping with my friend for her dress I was going back through what I ordered and discovered the waist measurement for the size I ordered is 3 inches smaller than my waist measurement. I looked into changing the size but the dress is already in production. Now I am STRESSING out that I’m not going to be able to fit into my dress. Looking for some reassurance that this will work out without having to put a corset back in or completely messing up the dress.

Every dress is different. Just do some exercises for that and worse case scenario it can be taken out w alterations. Did you try it in. This dress may fit you well? My consultant advised me against getting a 14 b they were out of 16 and the 18 i was heavily clipped into and I didn't want alterations. 14 fits but of course losing 10 lbs can make it fit much better. Just try it out first.

Daughter's experience was that in-store dress samples were very stretched and NOT good indicators of the manufacturer's actual sizes. Did the shop have you sign off on the size they ordered? Daughter's shop took her measurements, showed her how they compared with the manufacturer's size chart (Rebecca Ingram), and then she had to sign an acknowledgement of the size that was being ordered. She tried on a size 8 in the shop, and they had to clip a good 4" at the waist; however, her measurements were exactly the manufacturer's measurements for a size 8. I had my doubts compared with the sample, but that's what we ordered. When her dress came in, it fit just about perfectly. If you ordered from David's bridal, I think they are super flexible about exchanges, but if you ordered from a bridal salon, I'd question them about how your measurements compared with the manufacturer's size chart. Worst case scenario is that most dresses can be adjusted at least one size up or down, but alterations can be costly. Good luck!

That has me worried too. I'm hoping the sample they had in the store was a new one (the smallest size they had when I tried it on 2 months earlier was a size 4, this sample was a size 2). It fit absolutely perfectly, a little on the snug side. If it was stretched out at all my dress isn't gonna fit xD. It's funny, my previous dress was a size 2 and it was a bit big. gotta love wedding dress sizing.

Dresses run differently due to materials and brand so I’m sure the salon knew what to order after taking your measurements. Try not to stress.

It was and I double checked with the shop and confirmed the measurements. I but I also looked up the measurements online for some of my size 6 work dresses and they also list the waist size as 26 but they all fit me perfect with room in the waist. I’m gonna try to let it go for now as there’s nothing I can really do (other than than try to slim down some before the dress gets here which I was already planning on doing).

I feel like they measured my "Waist" in a funny spot. I was on track for an 8 in my bust and hips but my waist was a half inch over for my designer at a 26.5. That's frustrating because all other designers I've seen seem to break to the next size in half increments. I'm stressing that my alterations will be extreme now because it will be too big. I'm sure if they recommended that size, it will be fine though! Try not to stressSmiley smile
