Dress Alterations - back

Emily, on August 22, 2019 at 7:21 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 10
Hi Brides! I am absolutely in LOVE with my Maggie Sottero dress. I felt so beautiful and comfortable in the dress - but looking at pictures the back is really open. FH and I are both devout Catholic and I don’t want to feel/look exposed during Mass. I bought the lace kit with the dress to see if we can add a lace illusion back.
My question - has anyone added a back to their dress before? Any success stories or advice? Thanks so much! 💜

I did!! I added it because I didn’t think about the fact that without a back there would be limited structure to support my front. You can see it at the link below (I cant upload photos from mobile web). That picture makes it look more sheer than it is and is from my second fitting, so it’s been tightened up a bit more. You could definitely do an even more opaque tulle, but would recommend matching the opacity of the top layer of your dress. We discussed incorporating some lace into mine but decided against it... however that would look incredible with yours since you have all the appliqués. So my pros: my seamstress did an incredible job so it looks like it was always part of the dress, I think it looks very classic (which is my style and helps to balance the contemporary look of the front), and does the job of helping support the front. My cons: I used to be able to get in the dress by myself, now I need someone to button me in.

First of all, your dress is gorgeous!

I kinda had a little issue like that with a dress i liked. My grandmother is very catholic and she thought the front was a bit too low.
Don't really have advice, just a shared experience

I'm rocking a low back in a Catholic church. I think it's fine! Lot's of ballgowns have low backs but I think because they are poufy you don't notice the sexiness as much as a low back with a form fitting gown. Your veil covers it pretty well... as will mine. Plus, the front of your dress is modest. I would say that if for some reason you can't alter the back (if you still want to), then wear a double-layered veil to make it more opaque and for added coverage. You look beautiful!

I don't have any suggestions on adding a back, but your dress is absolutely gorgeous! I also went with a Maggie Sottero dress. Smiley smile
