Dress Alteration Appointments

Nicole, on March 4, 2015 at 11:30 AM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 13

My wedding is a little over 4 months away so I'm thinking it's about time to get those alteration appointments on the calendar. My veil is supposed to be in next week so I think that will be an excellent time to call and set them up. I have been wondering what is typical though. How many weeks before your wedding was your first appointment and how many fittings did you do? I'm feeling like I'll have to do a lot of fittings because I bought my dress off the rack and it's HUGE. It's a size 12 and I'm about a 7. So it's going to need lots of work.

My weddings about a month before yours and I'm going to my first this weekend. I was thinking I'd start in April, but they told me they get crazy busy as it gets closer to summer so they would rather get a jump on things and then just make the final adjustments closer to the date

Ok so maybe the beginning of May? Or end up of april since im probably falling in that super busy time. I got my dress at a beach town on the central coast. Its about two hours away so itll take my whole saturday to get this done. Thats why I want to plan.

I personally started my alterations back in October and I'm getting married in April. My dress had A LOT of alterations to be done. I go for my final fitting tonight!

My first fitting is tomorrow, and my wedding is 6/6. The shop said I could start anytime as long as I have my shoes.

My wedding is 5/29 and they don't want me to make an appt. until 4/29. I think I'll do it a little earlier though bc that scares me that its so close to the date for the first fitting.

My wedding is 3/22-I had my first fitting in mid-November as I was going from a size 14 to size 8/10 on the dress. I then had a fitting in early January, another in January, and finally 3 in February. It took every last one of those to get the straps right, length right etc. My seamstress even recommended (which was a great idea) to take my dress home for a day and spend an hour or so sitting/standing/walking/moving in it and seeing how it felt. I was able to identify issues with shoes, itchy/rubbing areas etc. that I wouldn't have been able to do in the store. In order to keep my fiancé out of the loop I did this at home fitting at the parent's house for an hour.

Call your seamstress and ask. You might need to plan on 3-4 fittings if you really have to take in the dress that much, so I'd err on the side of going in too early.

I'm planning my fittings around when I'll be in the same state as where my wedding will be, so it's a little more complicated. My first one is the last weekend in March for my June wedding and it's possible I won't have another one until the week of the wedding. Which makes me a little nervous, but I don't have many alterations to make (just a bustle and taking it in).

I'm only having two fittings - first one is March 19th and then another about 2-3 weeks before our wedding (in May). You might be a little early, but it can't hurt to at least check and see what the seamstress thinks?
