Dress Advice, would you cut out the clear fabric out?

Monica, on October 5, 2017 at 8:20 AM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 1 32

Okay, so this is the only picture I found of my dress online and of course you can't see it here, but in red I showed where it would be. The dress has see-through/skin colored fabric in the chest and when I wear it you can see a line from up close, but not from a distance. Although, as you can see, the dress has a deep V so I'm not sure if the fabric is supposed to be for breast support. I am planning to have my seamstress possibly add some fabric in the lower breast area just because I'm a slightly more conservative gal, but I'm not totally sure yet. The ladies at the dress store told me I can cut out the see through fabric if it bothers me, but what would you guys do? my biggest worry is seeing the line from the fabric in pictures because it doesn't perfectly match my skin color on my chest, but I would also hate to cut it out and have the dress falling away from my boobs all night. Obviously I will make sure my experienced seamstress has a say too, I don't see her until next month.

I really wouldn't worry about this until you have the dress and you see a seamstress.

    What a pretty dress!

I would put "paging Gymmie (GymRat)" in the title as her dress had a similar panel, I believe.

Pretty sure it's there to hold everything (you and the dress) in place.

Are you considering a modesty panel--I think that is what it's called.

Thank you! and I was wondering that too, it seems like the cups might fall forward without the fabric...and not necessarily a modesty panel, the seamstress I use also designs wedding dresses by hand so I'm thinking of just having her sow something intricate to cover the first 1/4 of that V dip in the dress, just so I can still have a V but you can't see my breast bone lol. My boobs are much smaller than the models so the V is pretty deep on me.

If you remove that the likelihood the cups gap wide is high.

If you remove it- you'll have to put in something like fishing line to keep them from bowing open.

Those panels aren't there for modesty- they are for the garment to function as it was designed.

I agree with JoRocka, the material is there to hold the bust area together. Without it, the gap will be exposing your chest.

    I would not remove it.

My daughters dress has the same plunging neckline and open in the back. The fabric will be her skin color. She is having cups sewn into the front since she can't wear a bra. You will need to keep the fabric there to hold the dress in place. Very beautiful dress.

Thanks guys, if I don't remove it do you think a necklace would help break up the line from the clear fabric or wearing my hair down or something? I could only see the line in some of the pics from the bridal salon, but that was fluorescent lighting, not sure if outdoor lighting will make the fabric line more/less obvious

@juicyfruit, I would not wear a necklace. I would do a pair of statement earrings and bracelet. I see lots of dresses on the weekend with this type of fabric, I sometimes have to do a double take because it looks just like their skin. Your dress will be perfect.

Is the color the wrong color for your skin- I'd do that rather than try to hide it.

See if you can find GymRat's BAM- she had an invisible neckline- the photographer is going to Photoshop/hide it anyway- and people in person won't care.

But it is ideal to get it close to your skin color.

And what I saw was mainly like the line from where the fabric ended on my collar bone, only at certain angles, I think the fabric already matches my skin tone relatively well.

This is a necklace in the bridal salon we tried on just for full look ideas, and ignore the bra I won't be wearing one the day of, so let me know if that necklace helps make it less obvious because I can buy it at the store today

I am not a fan of the necklace. The dress is so pretty!!! I think once the dress is fitted properly that the lining won't be so visible.

I agree that it just looks like a fit issue. You should talk to the seamstress if it really bothers you. Personally, I think the necklace brings attention to the line instead of hiding it. Wear some interesting earrings that will draw the eye up.

I agree, I think the necklace brings attention to it! having your hair down might help, but it also might be less noticeable when the dress fits properly

Skip the necklace. you're only going to cause conflicting visual issues.

If you want a necklace- you need to cut the fabric- replace it with fishing wire and hope for the best- knowing you're changing the structure of the gown.
