Draping/Decor alternative in a large, high ceiling, industrial space.

Molly, on July 27, 2017 at 4:13 PM Posted in Style and Décor 1 19

I'm getting married next summer and was just quoted on very minimal draping and lights for my venue (decorated picture below in a different venue). All I wanted was a few drapes on some of the beams and string lights. I didn't realize it would cost me $4000 for the fabric, and installation. Any alternatives on less expensive ways to decorate my space, potentally DIY (empty indoor space picture below)?

With high ceilings like that, I would not recommend DIY. You'll need a high ladder and I would be really worried that someone would get hurt trying to scramble to put up or take down fabric or lights.

I honestly dont even need lights or drapery all the way up at the top. If I could just drape some fabric mid beam (do you see where the advertisement signs are?) to the next beam...

I'm also not necessarily saying DIY installing high draping stuff myself. My question is more, how else could I decorate the space in a way that would NOT require high draping? PVC? Decorate the pillars individually?

Oh, I see. I misunderstood your question. I would definitely opt for tall centerpieces and I think you can still hang sting lights at a lower height. I'm trying to find a picture. I think that would still look nice even if it's not super high up.

Oh this could be cool. Instead of hanging lights all a long the room could hanging them on the wall like this work?

Round balloons could work too. I think they can give a similar look to hanging paper lanterns if you put LED's in them

YES! I bet if I got a lot of those super tiy copper string LED strands I could even hang/drape them FROM the balloons

I could mix clear, white, and gold and put some homemade confetti in the clear ones.

Those string lights are super pretty and usually have battery packs on them. Mine were pricey (from anthro) but i bet you can find cheap options on amazon or something. You could even wrap them around the string.

I bough some teeny tiny string light from amazon for our tables (we;re gonna put them under moss) that were 10 ft strands for $10.99 for a 6 pack

If I picked a high ceilinged industrial space, it would be because I loved the look of it. My first thought would not be "How can I cover this up and lower the ceiling?" Draping will make it look like any other cookie cutter wedding venue.

I would do something more creative like these hanging rings. You can DIY them ahead of time with faux garland and flowers. To hang them you just attach a rope and throw the rope over the beam.

Alternatively , you could hang the rings horizontally, one over each table like a hanging centerpiece.

@muriel, I love the idea but those rafters are way up there and cant really be reached without special equipment. That equipment rental fee is my biggest money drain that I'm trying to get rid of.

I love the balloon idea. There are balloons now that have LED lights in them already too and they are relatively inexpensive

I would attach Magnetic hooks to the ends of my fabric. It would be a cool idead for draping in the high steel beams. It can be easy to decorate with a large pole.
