Donut wall: yes or no?

Kristen, on May 22, 2017 at 2:24 PM Posted in Do It Yourself 0 45

I was hanging out with some friends Saturday night and one said "you know what you should have at your wedding? A donut wall!" I didn't know what it was do I did a quick Pinterest search and it's exactly what it sounds like- a wall with donuts on it (reference picture attached). At first I thought this was the coolest thing ever and I just had to have it, but the more I thought about it I'm not sure how practical it would be. My reception will be indoors with AC so there shouldn't be any problems with melting but I still worry there would be drippy donuts and that some might even slide off the hooks. Not sure how likely that is but now I'm imagining everything that could go wrong.

Thoughts? Would you think this is cool or kinda silly? I keep going back and forth!

ETA: Thought I should add for clarity, if I have donuts anywhere at the wedding they will be in addition to cake, not instead of.

I feel like you would have a whole wall of stale doughnuts.

My fiancée cousin is having one at her wedding! We are having a treat table, and donuts will be apart of that. Not everyone is into cake, so I'm giving some options. Smiley smile

@MM, that crossed my mind too. Curse Pinterest for their wonderful yet impractical ideas.

I saw that picture on Facebook or Pinterest the other day. It's cute but I'm a germophobe and I feel like all kinds of air particles would be on them, they'd be stale or people would be touching all over them. I guess that could happen to any dessert table though. Just not a fan of this wall....

As for the stale concerns, our coordinator says they keep them in the back until dessert time and then they bring them out. You could just have the wall ready for them and bring them out after.

I love donuts but this idea is so impractical to me.

What happens when you let glazed donuts sit on a table for 20 minutes? The glaze gets dry and cracked, the donut gets stale, and it's really not that great anymore unless you can pop it in a microwave for 5 seconds, which you obviously cannot do at a wedding.

    Not worth it imo.

As someone who doesn't like cake, I'd be thrilled to see a donut wall!

Hopefully there is something you can find that will work out the logistics. I wanted to go that route but FH's one request was that he gets to pick a cake he likes, so cake it is.

I'm doing a donut wall. Constructing it this weekend. Our day of coordinator and her assistant will place them during dinner while they're setting up the rest of our dessert bar. They won't have time to go stale before they're eaten.

I recently went to a wedding with a donut display and it was, without a doubt, our table's favorite part of the night! The donuts were probably some of the best I've ever had in my life!

I think some sort of donut display as part of your dessert table would be lovely. I love the idea of the donut wall but I feel like the logistics may get tricky. I'd do it but stick to a cute tiered display or something along those lines.

    I don't know that I would trust a doughnut off a wall

As long as you can keep bugs and such from getting on them, and they are brought out in such a time that they won't go stale, I'd say go for it! It's a cute idea!
