Don't want to write your own vows?

Jenni G., on February 2, 2010 at 4:10 AM Posted in Planning 0 6

I totally didn't want the pressure on FH and I to have to write our own vows. That may sound odd, but I feel like we already have so much to do and worry about for the wedding that I didn't want to take up tons of time obsessing how certain words sound verses others.. so I started looking online because we still don't want the good ol' fashioned vows..

I found a site that I really like and I hope you ladies like it too!

http://www.myweddingvows.com/

I think we're going to go with these vows..

You are my best friend for life.

I pledge to honor, encourage, and support you through our walk together.

When our way becomes difficult, I promise to stand by you and uplift you,

so that through our union we can accomplish more than we could alone.

I promise to work at our love and always make you a priority in my life.

With every beat of my heart, I will love you. This is my solemn vow.

Are you not religious? Just curious. I don't want to write my own vows either when it comes time, but I plan on getting married in a church and using their "stock" vows. What you posted is very sweet, appropriate, and seems to cover all the bases. I know of one bride on here that was going to be using more traditional Irish vows (I'm pretty sure Irish). Maybe depending on your heritage you could find something in that route? Not saying what you've chosen isn't fine!!

Oh, we're religious in a sense.. the officiant is actually a non-denominational pastor that grew up with my FH. We're pretty much a mish mash of cultures lol He's english, german, polish, and irish and I'm german/polish

Is there a particular reason that the "traditional" vows won't work for you? I'm just curious Smiley smile

Sounds good. We are sticking to traditional vows. We thought about writing our own. But when the time comes I am pretty sure I will be too emotional to say them.

Well I'm marrying a preacher so I guess you could say we are religious lol. But that being said, we're still not going with the tradition ho-hum vows. I went to a wedding that FH officiated last year and the vows he wrote for them were amazing. Still touched on the biblical model for marriage and each one's responsibility to the other but it was not your typical wedding vows and I've asked him to write the vows for our ceremony.
