Don’t want a father daughter Dance.

Keisha-Gay, on May 31, 2020 at 5:28 PM Posted in Family and Relationships 0 16
I Really don’t want to do a Father Daughter Dance! My stepdad and I are cool but I am not comfortable doing a father daughter dance....he is my step dad for 32 years but I just don’t want to do a father daughter dance. My son is walking me down the isle and I am super excited about that! I was a Teenage Mom when I had him and we have been through so much together, I couldn’t be more happier to let him give me away.

It’s YOUR wedding and unfortunately people will take issue with how you decide to plan and hold your wedding. I am not having a father/daughter dance either, and my brother is walking me down the aisle, rather than my father. We have a complicated history, and that is enough for me.
I would do what you think is best, and if it comes down to having to explain that you don’t want something, always remember it’s your big day!

You don’t have to have a father daughter dance. I’m having a brother sister dance! It’s your wedding!

A lot of people don't have any spotlight dances. No big deal. Have someone anounce for others to come dance when you and groom have danced a minute, or a whole dance, whichever you prefer. That's it. Groom or you can dance with anyone after that. He can request a special tune to dance with his mom, and lead her to dance then if he wants.

You definitely don't have to do a father daughter dance if you don't want. You can do a mother-son dance with your son if you are interested, or you can just cut it all together.

Then don't have one Smiley smile It is YOUR wedding, and you shouldn't incorporate a single thing that makes you uncomfortable or isn't meaningful to you just because that's what everyone else does. There are so many wedding traditions that people do just because they think they have to - pick the ones you want, and leave the rest. You deserve to enjoy every moment!

A majority of weddings don't have any spotlight dances after the first dance. Do whatever you're comfortable with.

    So, don't do one.
I know that sounds too simple, but *make* it that simple. You are not interested in the dance, so you're not doing one.

If people try to throw drama about it, change the subject.

That's awesome and super sweet! Also you totally don't have to have one. I'm actually doing a mother daughter dance instead. You can add or subtract whatever you like for your wedding; and don't feel like you have to just because it's been done for yearsssssss lol!

My father is not big on dancing, my mom will be lucky if she gets a dance out of him. So we are taking a 2 minute song and also having the mother/son dance at the same time. Which works out great because my faince HATES dancing. I will also be lucky to get a few dances too!
