Mrs R.
Dedicated October 2013

Don't sweat the small stuff! Enjoy your day!

Dear daughter is getting married in 3 weeks. Things have gone along pretty well with minimal drama but she is starting to get stressed. You worry about every little detail and want everything to be perfect for your day. But a couple weeks ago I learned a valuable lesson. We went to the wedding of a relative that we aren't super close to. The bride and groom are both grad students living in different states away from her hometown which is where the weddding was. They moved the date up because her dad is ill and they wantd him to be there to walk her down the aisle. I don't think they were very involved in the planning due to time and distancce constraints. Since I am knee deep in wedding planning I took notice of alot of the details. Flow of the reception was really bad with alot of "dead" time. DJ was terrible, minimal decor, etc. What I really noticed was how happy they were and the sweet, touching speech she gave about her dad in lieu of the father/daughter dance that he couldn't do. The next day we went to a breakfast for any guests that wanted to come. Their close family and friends raved about the wedding, how beautiful it was, how fun it was, how perfect everything was. So bottom line, your true friends and family who love you will love every minute of your special day. Don't sweat the small stuff and enjoy EVERY minute of your day. You won't remember those tiny details 20 years from now, but you WILL remember how happy you and your friends and family were.

I agree! NotFroofy and I were not able to get legally married anywhere for the first 8 years we were together. There were several snafus on our wedding day, but nothing that could shake our euphoria at finally being able to get married. When I look at our wedding pictures now, it is that joy that is most striking to me.

I've been repeating that in my mind daily, it's become one of my wedding affirmations.

I decided not to be too detail orientated & to appreciate the fact that I am bless to be able to plan a wonderful, beautiful wedding day to enjoy & share with my family & friends.

Thank you for this post!!! I am getting married in 6 weeks, and getting a little stressed about how many things I need to do. (All the little detail stuff) I really want to enjoy my day and just be able to relax. I needed to hear this! :-)
