Don't rain on my parade

Tessa, on May 21, 2019 at 3:46 PM Posted in Community Conversations 0 30

I went to a wedding this past weekend and I just had to share my experience. It was a destination wedding at a beautiful Ranch about an hour outside of Sacramento. It was absolutely pouring rain. Not a drizzle. a downpour. The bride did not worry. She said, "I don't care if not one person shows up, I am getting married under that oak tree!". And she did! Over 200 people showed up and we stood in the rain to watch them exchange vows. Granny said, "almost 93 years on this earth and I've never seen anything like this!" It was spectacular. She looked amazing, even soaking wet. The make up didn't even budge and she is just blessed with great hair that still looked beautiful. I wanted to share this with you all. It was a great reminder that even if the worst weather can try and ruin your day, it is still YOUR day. Nothing can take away your happiness if you don't let it!

That's awesome!! What a great story!! It inspires me to relax, and let the small stuff go.

I disagree with this. I’ve been to a wedding where the bride refused to move it inside and we all stood in the mud huddled under umbrellas as the rain came down sideways. It was about 50 degrees outside and I was completely miserable and I thought it was pretty selfish on her part. I sucked it up but don’t have fond memories of that day and think guests comfort should be a huge priority.

So much nope. The second you invite people it's not your day anymore. I can't imagine doing this to my guests. So inconsiderate and selfish.

If you want to do things without considering other people, than you should elope.

I agree. I think it's VERY rare that an entire guest list would be okay in the pouring rain watching a wedding. If I was soaking wet from a ceremony, I'd probably just go home since the likelihood of me having a change of clothes or access to a dryer would be slim to none. That's why a backup plan is so important for weather.

Oh booooo.....I actually loved OP's story.....way to rain on the parade, PPs! J/k, I can actually see both sides, but come on, that would've made a great romcom ending - ha! 💛

I agree Cristy! It inspired me also. At the end of the day if you end up married, it was a successful wedding. The night before we couldn't stop saying how bad we felt for the bride. We all flew out there for this because she loved that location and we were so bummed for her. But she had the biggest smile on her face and she still made her dream of marrying her husband under that tree come true. It was beautiful! She was very relaxed and made the best of it. It was sweet!

I think this is lovely and romantic. I would bring an umbrella and my raincoat and be there for our friends.

It rained on our wedding day and we moved our ceremony to a patio for our comfort and our guests' comfort. Nobody wants to be cold and wet at a dinner reception! (Hubby & I took first look pics outside in light rain and the photos were spectacular.

I forgot to mention it was just regular rain water falling from the sky, wasn't battery acid.

What a great story. That’s awesome that she didn’t let the rain ruin her day and still had her dream wedding! Idk about others, but I know for my wedding my guests are family or very close family friends and they’d all be more than happy to sit under an umbrella for a 20 minute ceremony if it meant I could get married at my dream location, and I would do the same for any one of my friends.

This is definitely a sweet romantic story and I’m glad that you enjoyed yourself, OP, but I agree with the previous posters who have said that this was a really selfish decision and I hope that nobody reading this decides to emulate it. Nobody wants to be sopping wet in nice wedding clothes and I’m sure there were people that day who weren’t thrilled about that. There’s a big difference between not letting things like weather affect your happiness and totally disregarding everyone else’s comfort! I understand the mindset of “at the end of the day, as long as you got married that’s what matters,” but in my opinion, that means that it doesn’t matter if you get married in the pretty place that you like or in the indoor plan B location, you’ll be married either way, so you might as well pick the choice that won’t leave all your guests wringing wet and uncomfortable for the rest of the night!

I LOVE this story! The carefree vibe is inspirational and it sounds like the guests had the option to stay or go and they stayed for her!

Rainy weather is my favorite, but I don't want it on my wedding day. My ceremony/reception venue is 100% outdoors, so fingers are crossed! We will have a white tent, but that it is. Like the wedding you just attended, we will be under a 200-year-old oak tree.

Hahaha I think it is a great story. If the guests didn’t want to stand in the rain the wouldn’t do it. But there are some people in your life that are worth standing in the rain for!
