Is the dollar dance still a thing? Are you doing it?

No, it's not unless it's a cultural tradition. It shouldn't be done.

I'm pretty sure "dollar dances" are a strip club thing. Sorry.

Also, the Facebook comments don't prove anything other than the fact that your friends (or whoever they are) are tacky.

Almost every wedding I've been to has had one. My family makes it a game to embarrass people that don't like to dance to go out there. I think it's fun and I will be having one at my wedding. It's almost a family tradition for me.

It's only a thing for some cultures. The cultures that have this tradition come to weddings prepared for the dollar dance. If it's not apart of your culture then it's just tacky and greedy

Since you said "it's not about the money" you do realize that you can dance with your guests without making a spectacle of yourself panhandling from them, don't you?

I wouldn't say it's a "cultural" thing in my experience, definitely a Southern thing. Of all of the weddings I have been do there has only been 1 that did not have a "dollar dance," which we call the "money dance." I don't feel as though it is "begging" for money as other commenters have said, it's a fun way to get in a quick minute with the bride and groom. I know the last wedding I went to, I was family of the groom but did not want to take time away from his new wife, so I waited until the dollar dance to dance with him! Nothing wrong with it at all in my opinion!
