We had a meeting with our DJ and he was pushing the Dollar Dance for our wedding. Personally I do not want to do it because 1. I feel bad chargind a $1 for a dance with me (lets admit it I'm a dancing machine anyways and I'm going to be out on the dance floor all night) 2. Most of our guests...

We had a meeting with our DJ and he was pushing the Dollar Dance for our wedding. Personally I do not want to do it because

1. I feel bad chargind a $1 for a dance with me (lets admit it I'm a dancing machine anyways and I'm going to be out on the dance floor all night)

2. Most of our guests consists of newly graduated college kids who are there for the party

So I finally got through to my DJ and he agreed but also offered up the alternative to put a "Tip Jar" next to our signature drink to make it look like the tips are going to the bartenders. We have already tipped our bartender 25% in our contract and it states that they are not allowed to take any more tips from the guests from our wedding.

Now I feel like we would be deceaving our guests making them think the tips are going to the bartenders when in fact it's for us. I'm wondering how I can word a "tip jar" to let guests know the money will be spent on our honeymoon/house. Any ideas??

Don't do it. He shouldn't be pushing stuff on you. Tell him "no" and let him know you don't want to hear about it again or see it at your wedding. If he tries it day off post an honest review and report him to the BBB and the venue (they can take him off their preferred list.

I agree, a tip jar is simply tacky to say the least. Money Dance is pretty standard and usually doesn't come off as begging however it's your wedding not your DJ's and he should respect your wishes, stop pushing his vision and move on. You hired him as your DJ not Wedding Consultant Smiley smile

(sorry if this is repeating any other posts, I don't have the energy to read what everyone suggested)

Some people do a dollor tree or "wish" tree.. you can just put a sign out that says "honeymoon" with some clips for guests to clip money to the tree or or you can create little envelopes where guests can write a wish for you and can insert cash or a check if they wish as well.. The dollar dance, though cute, is more pushy for your guests so they feel like they have to do it and if no one offers to dance for a dollar...... well that's a little awkward! lol at least the tree is there for people to leave you either good thoughts, a little money or both.

It's your wedding. If you don't want to have a dollar dance, that's your choice.

I hate the idea of both. My whole family and all my friends want me to do a dollar dance, i think it tacky and uncomfortable and they all think i am RIDICULOUS for not wanting money....so i guess i am doing it. My mom says, dollar dance, money tree and gift table. I am like WTH, that seems SO rude!!
