Dollar Dance: Tacky or Still fun?

I am a second time Bride but it is FH's first time. My first wedding was everything from a "dream". This time FH wants it to be amazing. I feel like the dollar dance is kind of tacky though and given that I am 30 it is frowned upon? In all reality we are paying for our wedding and anywhere if this...

In all reality we are paying for our wedding and anywhere if this can mean a little bit closer to a honeymoon... I might do it. What are your thoughts on it?

I had only seen it done at one wedding I have attended. I did not know what it was before that and have not seen it since. I didn't find it offensive when I was there but for my own personal wedding we weren't huge fans of it. Our wedding was at a very nice location and it almost would seem weird for people to come to a fancy place and then give you money so we put a spin on it. We had fake $1,000 bills printed to hand out to our guests and it was called the "funny money dance". The idea is silly and in our heads it was fun to be competitive and see who got the most "money" in the end. Unfortunately, we had no time to even get to that at the reception BUT it is an idea for anyone who doesn't want/need the actual money!

We did one. It was fun! No one seemed offended, we were able to hug and laugh with people individually. We truly loved every single one of our guests (except for my SIL) so nothing was uncomfortable, when I go to weddings I get excited for the dollar dance, it is a chance to be goofy and keep sharing in their day. My FIL was recently diagnosed with ALS and we decided that we would donate half of what ever we received to the upcoming ALS Walk For a Cure. We didn't tell anyone what we were doing, when the DJ announced it FIL was very touched. We were able to donate $350, I am not sure if people gave more because it was going to a good cause or not, but it is not tacky!

A few years ago every wedding I went to had the dollar dance…in recent weddings I’ve been to, I haven’t seen it so much. We also didn’t do it at our wedding. I think it might contribute to the fact that people are now doing honeyfunds as registries, having a little jar for cash out that reads “honeymoon fund”, and things like that. We also didn’t do it because of time issues. The dollar dance can take up a lot of time and when you have a restriction you’d probably much rather use that time enjoying the dance floor with everybody!
