Hi All! Just wondering if anyone else's mom or anyone for that matter has told them that what they want for their wedding...that they're paying for...is "too much"? Hi All!

Just wondering if anyone else's mom or anyone for that matter has told them that what they want for their wedding...that they're paying for...is "too much"? Or that their ideas are "doing too much"?? I will admit that my mom has paid for quite a few things like my dress and some decor but is wanting a sparkler exit really too much?? Asking for myself lol

Sparklers aren’t too much, ESPECIALLY if you go to local fireworks vendors day after the 4th! They Give boxes of stuff away with a purchase! Trust me!

That is such a great idea! I'll definitely be checking out some stores on the 5th!

Yes! My parents think Weddings are a waste of money and I have been dreaming of my wedding day since I was 9 years old. My dad even threatened to not come if I spent over $5k for the whole thing! I had to just remove them from the process and luckily they backed off. I will admit though, some things they were right about. I was so obsessed in the beginning with having everything perfect. I was causing myself unnecessary stress. Once I reminded myself that it's just one day, I started enjoying the process. It's ok to want what you want, just figure out what your deal breakers are and compromise on everything else.

I am also doing a sparkler exit! I think it's fun and a great way to end the night. It's your wedding, so don't be afraid to stand up to your mom a little. She doesn't have to pay for it if she doesn't agree with it.

Thank you! I guess I don't want to come off as too bratty when I say "It's my day". You're right though, I could definitely let her know that this is something I want and will be paying for.

I agree 110%!! I definitely take her advice on some things as far as what would be tasteful but for the most part, her input doesn't matter. That might be harsh, but my FH and I are paying for 98% of the wedding ourselves. I've decided to do the same and not let her in on some of my ideas lol

My mom is like this! She isn't contributing financially to the wedding at all, but she's said a lot of things were "too much", like having my hair and makeup done, having dinner and alcohol, having a 5 hour reception, having more than 20 guests, etc. I've just been telling myself that weddings are different than they were in the 60s, and it doesn't matter if it's not what my mom would do

Omg yes! I think moms have a hard time understanding that times change. My future mother in law wanted to invite a lot of HER friends and family. My FH and I had to stop her from making that list ASAP! I think back in the day the wedding was more for the parents of the couple? Lol either way, things have changed and moms need to understand that.
