Dog in wedding

Rockie, on May 11, 2019 at 1:07 AM Posted in Wedding Ceremony 0 25
Anyone else having their pup in their wedding? My chihuahua will be my ring bearer. I am in the process of making her a dress out of the scraps from my dress after being altered (progress picture below). Once I finish the skirt I will add lace straps. I am also having my florist make her a floral arrangement that will go around her neck. Anyone else as crazy dog mom like me?

Me! My (well he will be ours - but I rescued him almost 20 yrs ago) 90 lb. pup will be in the wedding as a ring bearer. We are getting a suit made for him on Etsy & the florist is making him his own boutonniere.

That is so cute! I wish I could have my pups in our wedding but my older dog (chocolate) would go crazy and jump around! My younger dog (silver) will be so scared from all the people and hide and shake 😕

My pup will be in our wedding as “dog of honor”. He will walk down with the junior bridesmaid! I’m also having a tux made for him from Etsy ❤️

I wish we could, but our venue has a no pets policy. Which probably isn't a bad thing because my dogs are hot messes haha.

My venue was unsure at first but once I told them it was a 6 lb chihuahua whose feet don’t touch the floor they didn’t mind haha

We have a Pom mix and a Plott Hound mix who lose their minds whenever people are around. Not in a bad way, they just act like a teenage girl who saw her favorite boy bander haha. I joke that our hound mix would probably fall asleep in the aisle and the pom would probably pee on my dress.

What are you all planning as far as keeping your dog quiet and calm for the duration of the actual ceremony? Lots of treats? Anything else?

For the reception I’ll being bringing a large dog crate (she only weighs 6lbs and is crate trained ) and putting it in bridal suite just in case I feel like she is overwhelmed. However, she extremely well trained to behave in public places. She flys back and fourth from coast to coast once a month and I’ve never had an issue and when we are in California where it is allowed she comes literally everywhere with me, restaurants etc. I could see how it could be a mess with some animals especially if they don’t have experience in crowded places and wouldn’t be doing it if I wasn’t super confident in her behavior.

For the ceremony honestly as long as someone is holding her she is perfectly happy haha I’d be more worried about a baby making noise than her. My 13 year old niece will be walking her down the aisle and holding her during ceremony

Aw that is awesome! I ask because we are having our girl as a flower dog. She’s super sweet and well behaved but she does love people and tends to want to greet and befriend everyone, so I’m thinking treats at least are going to be essential to keeping her occupied during the ceremony itself. That and making sure she’s been walked and run off some energy ahead of time.

If I was a wedding guest I would WANT your dog to come greet me hahah
you can also start working on sit stay commands now to make it easier the day of. Have her sit, say stay, walk a few steps back say okay give her a treat. As she gets better go further. Start to slowly turn your back to her etc. work on it a few times everyday and I am sure by the time your wedding roles around you should just be able to put her in a sit stay. Or if she moves a bridal party member will be able to quietly/quickly correct her. And yes all the treats
