Dog down the aisle. what are your thoughts? UPDATE!!

I belong to a yorkie group, and I would love to put a fuchsia organza dress on my yorkie and have her walk down the aisle in my wedding . I will probably have one of my sons drive her home after the ceremony while we're doing pictures. We live less than a mile from the venue. What are your thoughts...

What are your thoughts on dogs in the wedding?

4/17/13 UPDATE:

I just had a friend make a dress to match my MOH's dress. It just came today!!

The first pic is my MOH's dress; second one is my yorkie in hers! It came out so cute!!

I love the idea of pets being incorporated into the wedding. Unfortunately, my dogs are little psychopaths who cannot possibly behave themselves and I can't bring my cat. But anyway, my point is if your dog is really important, I would definitely include her as long as she can behave herself.

I wanted my 90 pound bundle of joy pitbull in the wedding but a lot of people are scared of them and he can be kind of rambunctious and if he sees a cat were in huge trouble so he got left out he will be their in spirit we are putting a pic of him in the front row on a chair

What about my cats? Lol. I'd love to unfortunately they would never do well, they'd all run and hide and have never worn a leash

I think it's a great idea though Smiley smile lol

For most brides their pets are their children. You would include your children so why not your pets? They always add personality to the ceremony. Plus you get the ahhhhhhhhhhhs as they are walking down the aisle.

Have fun and include her. She is a part of the family and the ceremony is about her family.

Our Gigi is like our child and I keep asking FH if we can put her in. He is afraid that she will get distracted walking down the aisle or want to be with us the whole time or pee on my dress. No less undependable then a 2-3 year old as a flower girl or ring barer in my opinion. Actually my dog might be better behaved..LOL.

One of my weddings had the couple's 2 dogs as MOH & BM.

Another wedding had an Australian herding dog as the ring bearer. After the ceremony, he kept trying to get the guests grouped together when they wanted to roam the grounds!

One bride made her groom promise to love her dog in his vows!

@ Countrygirl - same here. My pit is tuxedo-colored, and I would love to dress her up in a pretty little tutu and have her in our ceremony, but alas, you are right. Some of my relatives will not even be in the same room as her because they are too scared of pit bulls, even though she loves all people! But, she is pretty hyper still at 7.5 years old, so we will have her pictures up in front of sweetheart table at the reception. We also had her prominently featured on our save-the-dates.

We're dog people too and would have Louie (my Italian Greyhound) involved somehow if we were doing our wedding locally...

I love the idea of incorporating your pup into the wedding! I would love to have our furbaby in it, but it would never work. We are having a DW, and he would think everyone was there to see him, lol.

Amy, no mini pigs walking up your aisle?

Our puppy is also already in tux but she isn't going to be travelling across country with us. She will be most likely at my mom's.

I would ABSOLUTELY love to have our boy in the wedding but i'm sure the church wouldn't allow it and he'll only be a little over a year and i doubt he'll calm down enough by then... it's not each controlling a 85 lb american pit! lol but my parents live less than a mile from our church so i'm planning on keeping him there and bringing him down for some pictures Smiley smile

I would love to have my Maltese-poodle mix in our ceremony, but she would probably be scared of all the people and run away. Smiley smile

I'm going to be completely alone on this but I say no...

Only reason being is that I've been to a wedding with a dog before- and FH's twin sister REALLY wants hers in our wedding... but dogs are a major distraction- at the wedding I went to almost no one paid attention to the ceremony I just heard whispers about the dog the WHOLE time... even though I wasn't even paying attention to it everyone else around me was and it was very distracting.

Don't get me wrong- I love dogs... also love cats and my Smudges is my baby... but he is perfectly fine staying home without all of the chaos.

Some dogs are wedding appropriate dogs; some are not.....Lola sat on Carolina's train for the entire ceremony and then she went home. The key is knowing what your personal dog is capable of and how much wedding they will enjoy.

Go for it! FI and I met at the dog park and I would have loved to have them at the ceremony. FI did not think it was a good idea but would have gone with whatever I decided. We have a nippy Aussie and a Black Lab. The thought of a ripped dress covered with black hair made me rethink it.

It would not be the same if we got a well behaved ramdon yorkie. ;-)
