Doesn't Like Cats or Dogs - Red Flag or Deal Breaker?

My FH haaaaates cats, but he also has a small allergy to them, so cats are an absolute no go for him. It’s upsetting because I like cats, but it’s not a dealbreaker for me. We both love dogs and can’t wait to get one once we get a bigger place! It’s nice to have that to look forward to for us. If he didn’t love dogs or cats, it probably would’ve been a dealbreaker though.

He doesn't have to like cats, but he has to love dogs. My dog is absolutely a member of the family and if he can't love my dog, the relationship is doomed.

He didn’t like cats, I didn’t like dogs, but now we have 3 of each lol.

My FH doesn’t really want pets, but I think part of it is he never had pets growing up. He doesn’t dislike cats and dogs, just has never bonded with an animal before and has adopted his dads philosophy of pets just being an added household expense.

They can not like cats, because I'm not a cat person, but we got a puppy together so if he didn't act like the puppy was his child, it'd be a deal breaker

Deal breaker - when I met my fiance, I introduced him to my cat Jambaz. At the time, my cat was 7 years old. I explained that I raised him since my cat was first born and no way in hell would I ever get rid of him or put him through the stress of having someone around who hates my cat. Then I said, if you don't like cats, there is the door. Needless to say, my fiance and my cat love each other! My fiance spoils my cat more than I do.

My fiance and I are both animal lovers. We don't have any dogs, but love them and we have a 60 gallon tank full of fish.

DEAL BREAKER
Cheating, stealing, and not liking animals are 100% deal breakers. No room for error.

I don't think this is a deal breaker, but it would definitely cause some discussion. FH loves animals though!

I’m allergic to both (severe allergy to cats) but I’m obsessed with animals. I have this mothering desire every time I see even an adult dog or cat. I will baby-talk a total strangers animal IDGAF.

Doesn't really matter. I've never had pets growing up, but my fiance has had cats and dogs. I don't care for cats much, but we agreed when we get a bigger home, we definitely should get a dog and the pup has to be good with our daughters.

Absolutely unquestioned deal breaker. FH was a dog person when we met, had never been around cats. I had three cats at the time. It was either learn to be a cat person, or there’s the door, nice knowing you. Three years later, I was crying because we had to rehome my oldest car with my mom. He came out to comfort me, I thought, til I realized he was crying too. Crazy cat man status confirmed that day.

Deal breaker if he didn’t love my dog! She’s the best, and everyone loves her! FH loves her so that was a good sign from the beginning!

Big Red Flag if he has pets. . I'm not a pet person at all! He threatens getting a dog but they are just words to rile me up

When I first started dating my FH, I had some doubts about him and my dog. He had told me that he didn’t really want pets, but before too long, my dog had him completely wrapped around his little paw. They’re absolute best buds and he spoils him more than I do!

Dealbreaker. Luckily, they love him too.

If you are an animal lover then I imagine it would be a deal breaker to be with someone who wasn’t. For me, that’s says a lot about your character if you’re not a dog or cat person lol

I am a huge animal lover and advocate so short of a medical reason for not wanting my furbaby...ummm...you gotta go! Deal breaker.
