My FI and I have decided that the groomsmen will wear gray three piece suits from theblacktux.com with burgundy ties and white pocket squares. The bridesmaids will be in burgundy. However, I really want my FI to stand out and be a little more formal. It is his day too. He keeps telling me that he doesn't care what he wears and that he wants what I want.

One of the real wedding photos on the rental website had all the groomsmen in our suit choice and the groom in a black tux. I thought that seemed like a great idea, but my FI likes to be traditional. I also asked my fmil her opinion and she acted like I was crazy and that this has never been done before and would confuse everyone.

Does the groom have to match? And if anyone has seen this at a wedding how did it turn out?

Currently, the plan is for my FH to wear a two piece navy suit with a gray vest while the groomsmen wear three piece navy suits. All would have the same burgundy tie. Although we don't have a BP yet, so all of this could change!

Our groomsmen are wearing dark grey, FH is wearing black - I think it's really flexible and will look great no matter what!

My FH will be in a light gray tux and his groomsmen will be in charcoal suits. The exact same tux everything, just different colors.

I don't think they have to match. I think the groom should stand out! I just don't think they should clash... like a brown suite groom and black suites groomsmen.

My FH will be similar to his men, yet with some subtle changes...color of his bow tie, and pocket square.

My FH is wearing grey pants and vest with a blue button up. Groomsmen are wearing the same color blue button up but will have black pants. Grey was too hard to match especially since the BM is in Germany right now. The GMs are wearing matching ties and FH is wearing a matching bow tie.

We're using generation tux. FH is going to wear a bow tie (look 1) and the groomsmen will wear a black tie (look 3).

My FH is wearing the same tux as the groomsmen. The only difference will be FH will have a white vest and tie.

We want him to match but be a little different. Since just like you said, it's his day too

I wanted my FH to stand out, too. We are having a beach wedding. The GM will be wearing linen pants and a white button shirt. FH will be wearing the same but with a linen vest and he also wants to wear a bowtie.

My groom will be wearing grey, while all the groomsmen will be wearing black suits. We want people to just wear what they have, and it's easier to "match" blacks than greys.

I like when the groom stands out from the groomsmen. Whether a it's a different tie or vest or a different colored suit. As you said, it is his day too!

We did a classic 3 piece black tux while his groomsmen wore charcoal suits with aqua ties to match the girls’ dresses. I also distinguished my MOH with a shade darker dress—more of a turquoise. Looking back...i wish I would’ve done the same with the best man’s tie (asymmetry bugs me lol). Bottom line you can do what you want, & have fun with it! Smiley smile) xoxo

I’m having the same issue, my FH and groomsmen are all wearing grey suits but I want to have the groomsmen wear eggplant ties and vests with eggplant pocket square. But my FH I would like to wear a grey vest with ivory tie and pocket square. Would that look dumb or should he wear a purple tie too?!
