We will soon be closing on our new home this year and moving in before the wedding date. This is our main reason for pushing the wedding date back so far. But again isnt this OUR LIFE? Anyway my question, Do you think more than a year of being engaged is too long? I can understand some arguments but others make no sense. It cost to have a BEAUTIFUL wedding as well as having to furnish our brand new HOME. That's what we are looking at. COST!

I am in the same boat as FutureMrsHammett we got engaged on New Years Eve 2010 and getting married in August because we are paying for everything and that cost money so we needed time to save to avoid going into "wedding debt"

However, I do think there is a such thing as being engaged for too long but it depends on the reason behind the long engagement. Your reason is very reasonable so its nothing wrong with pushing your wedding date back to funish ur home and save for the wedding of your dreams. If no one is contributing to the cost of your wedding then they can't really say anything about how long your engaged because of finances.

FH proposed to me on Fathers day 2009 at a family cookout. We planned on getting married the next year but financially we couldn't do it. last year we bought a house with our wedding fund so we pushed it back again to this sept. I really dont think it matters when you get married. As long as you and FH are happy and enjoying life together then thats all that matters.

I am however tired of my coworkers asking if I am married yet or still engaged. lol
