Does follow-up fall on couple vs vendors?

Hey all! Sorry this is long, but you can just skim through the examples. I’m just wondering about your experiences with vendor contact. Not the initial inquiry, but once you’re ready to book. Multiple vendors I’ve been trying to work with have been kind of sluggish, and I have no clue if that’s normal or if I should take it as a red flag.

For example, I recently had my hair and make-up trial. We scheduled a phone call to discuss my date and services needed, but they didn’t call at the scheduled time. I had to send them an email and get that rescheduled. My first trial then got canceled by the salon for legit reasons, and they said they’d be in touch in a couple days to reschedule. I gave them two weeks of crickets before I reached out and asked if they had other appointments available. At the trial, I asked about doing a second session because we have a photo shoot the day after the wedding and I have to get everything back on again. HMA said she was pretty sure she was available and to just note that in my post-trial questionnaire. (And thank goodness, this was not the slow part). That’s what I did, and then the owner sent the contract a few days later with no mention of the second session. I responded and asked about that, and she confirmed that my assigned HMA is available and that they would do a second contract for that. It’s now been two weeks since then, and still no further contact or contract for the second session.
The day-of coordinator similarly said she’d send us payment info after our initial consultation (she said as soon as we get off the phone). Over a week later, I had to reach out to ask if she could send it. She did, and it was just a sample invoice. No further info. I then responded and asked for payment info, and she sent just that (no further instructions). So then I responded to that and said great thanks, and what about the contract? Only then did she say the invoice was a sample for approval, and they’ll do the contract once we approve (which will be next week since they don’t handle contracts over the weekend, totally fine). But she definitely had not mentioned anything about the process before, and it’s been like pulling teeth just getting one piece of info at a time.
I don’t mind doing all this if it’s the norm. I know they’re busy running their businesses and my wedding day is not their most important day. But I just want to make sure I’m not overlooking these red flags before giving people so much trust and money.

I would take those 2 examples as red flags and I would try to find a different salon and a different coordinator. This type of response time or lack of response time and/or lack of attention to detail would be so frustrating to me!!!

That’s not how it’s supposed to be. Good vendors are very responsive and you should not have to chase them as the customer. Find other vendors for these services.

To me those are both red flags. A vendor should be sending you contracts and payment info on their own, you shouldn't have to reach out to ask for it.

Thanks for all the feedback! I was worried that I was going bridezilla with my expectations since this was happening with multiple vendors, so it makes me feel better that others also thought this was a problem. I’ve already reached out to another day-of coordinator who seems fun and lovely so far!
