I'm not Sarah but, I would assume they would order the dress in your proper size. If you do not notify them of the error now the dress will arrive in an incorrect size and it will not fit you. Since you ordered it yourself (which sounds odd) you will not be able to return it and will be out the money for the dress.

No, bridal dress sizes are generally larger than your regular clothing size. For example, if you wear a street size 8 you will probably be a bridal 12. Waist measurement is not subjective if it says it fits a 22.5 inch waist and you are not 22.5 inches it will not fit!

OP, where did you purchase the dress from? Why did they suggest purchasing it online? Is the waist measurement the only size that is off? ((Also, you ask for advice from people with a similar dress but, no one here knows who designed your dress or what it looks like so we have no clue and need more info.))

I've never heard of a bridal dress that was created for you that could be returned-- or did you just buy a generic amazon/lulu dress? Those are the only ones I've seen that can be returned

Nope - I bought it was Net-A-Porter and went to the designer's local brick and mortar near me.

If it's too small just return it but yeah usually you take all your measurements and order the size for the largest one (i.e. if my hips and waist follow their size 8 but my chest follows their size 10, I would order the size 10) unless there is a lot of stretch to the material.

It's just not typically how wedding dress ordering works, so it just seems strange to me that they would leave you to do this yourself. I'm not sure why you're being so defensive here, we're just trying to help you figure out what happened.

As PPs have said, wedding dresses are typically made to order based on your actual measurements, and are non-refundable. But if you're able to return it, then I guess just do that. You didn't look at the size chart before placing your order?

I'm a 4-6 and my waist is 27-28 inches. I ordered a size 8 in my wedding dress by my designer.

I had a similar fear when ordering my dress (although my measurements were much larger!! Lol) because I'm pear shaped, so my hip measurement is much larger than my waist and bust, but they told me to order according to my bust size. I literally went back to the store to try it on again and physically check the size tag to make sure I was getting the right size. They told me that it had to do with the specific style or cut of the dress. Since mine is a full A-line/small ball gown the hip measurement doesn't matter as much because there generally will just be more room there than let's say, a mermaid style. So maybe it's just the cut or style of your dress that dictates which measurement to order by

I have a 23.5 inch waist and wear a size 0. Im also not super short or super skinny just to give scale, just a tiny waist. I’m 5’4”. 23.5 is the exact number given by Allure so it’s not that rare. You can just ask a seamstress or the store to reemeasure you to be sure if you feel uncomfortable.

Just to clarify, 23.5 is the waist measurement given for Allure’s size 2. Also, designers do not make your dress to your measurements even if it is custom made. The consultant simply measures you to determine which size to order you, then you get a seamstress to refit it to your curves. You want your ordered size to fit your largest measurement.
