Do you wear both your engagement ring and wedding band beforehand?

Kelly, on September 22, 2015 at 2:17 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 22

For those of who aren't married yet.. Do you personally wear both your wedding band and engagement ring, if so on which hand? I've read so many different things on this topic, was just curious of your own personal routine? I was under the impression initially that the engagement ring is worn solely, on the right hand until the wedding day. Then once the wedding happens both rings are introduced to the left hand. I do remember that this can vary culturally too.

I have never heard of wearing the wedding band beforehand. I have not and would not until that day. Doesn't seem as special if you wear it before the wedding.

    Personally?

Engagement ring on left before the wedding.

Band and e-ring on left after the wedding.

It's how I was always taught to do it.

I've never heard of wearing the e-ring on the right hand before the wedding. I have heard that after the wedding some brides put the engagement ring on the right. Which is what I'm more than likely going to do because it's attached to my promise ring he gave me.

This is definitely a cultural thing. In my culture, the engagement ring is worn on the left and moved to the right after the ceremony (so opposite of what you said). This is because the wedding band is worn on the right, so if you want to wear them together, they both go on the right.

I have never seen anyone with an engagement ring on the right hand, except for maybe during the wedding ceremony, since the wedding band is supposed to go on the inside of the finger. And I've never seen anyone where their wedding band before the wedding unless they sent it to get soldered before the wedding.

As far as I remember, back home (Switzerland) the custom is to wear your engagement ring on the right and your wedding band on the left. I don't remember many people wearing them both together.

Since I got engaged here, my e-ring is on the left hand. I haven't completely decided yet if I will only wear my wedding band or both of them together.

ETA: I read some more, so normally you wear the engagement ring on your left while engaged and you move it to the right after getting married to make space for the wedding band. Wedding band and engagement ring on the same finger is not common. Most people probably only wear the wedding band on a daily basis and put on the engagement ring for special occasions.

Rings on the right hand is very common in European countries. But they always wear them there, they don't switch to left when it's official.

I'm super weird right now. I was only wearing my e-ring on my left hand. However, I wanted to get some work done on the wedding band, e-ring, and to have it appraised. It was less expensive to have the e-ring and band soldered together and then appraised. Since I already had plans to have them soldered together after the wedding, I decided to go ahead and get the band soldered and save $60 on the appraisal.

I now wear my e-ring and wedding band even though we're not married. Nobody has said anything to me, and I'd rather wear my rings than leave it in my jewelry box. I AM wearing my e-ring closest to my heart right now, and, when we get married, we'll change it to the wedding band closest to my heart.

    I know... I'm weird.

I've never heard of your rings going on your right hand. I'm wearing my e-ring only on my left hand. Once we're married I'm having my e-ring and wedding bands soldered together and am going to just wear the one ring on my left hand.

I wear my e-ring on my left and on the day of the wedding I will wear it on my right and during the ceremony FH will put my band on my left and then move my e-ring to my left.

I don't know about wearing my band before the wedding, I always felt that it was bad juju.

He wears his band every not and then, he's trying to get used to it. I'm wearing my band already. I don't want to send my rings off to be soldered right after the wedding and before the holidays so we had them soldered about a month ago. He'll just have the full set day of the wedding to put on my hand.

I wear my engagement ring on my left hand, and I'll wear both rings on my left hand after we get married. Before the ceremony, I'll wear my e-ring on my right hand (but only so it's not in the way during the ceremony). My priest always recommends doing it this way. I've seen older couples that wear their rings on their right hand, but I've never really known why; I'm assuming it's a cultural thing.

Here/in my culture, the most common thing is you wear the engagement ring only and on the left hand until the wedding and then add the wedding band. Some people don't get engagement rings or only have engagement rings and use that as a wedding band too but it's more rare. In other places it's the same but the rings go on the right hand, however I have never heard of the ring switching from one hand to the other upon marriage (doesn't mean it doesn't happen, just that I haven't heard of it).

The closest to that that I know of is that people who wear a claddagh (the Irish ring with the hands, heart, and crown), wear it different ways to symbolize their relationship status and if someone was to use this as their wedding band they might do this but it's a little different than you mentioned. Right hand facing out means the wearer is single, right hand facing in means taken, left hand facing out means engaged, left hand facing in means married.

I only wore mine together after we got them to show family members. That was it though. I still go in and look at it!
