Of course you don't have to have a DJ--but we are. In addition to a sound system and music, a professional DJ will also MC your event, and help keep your timeline moving smoothly. A good DJ can keep the dance floor full all night. He makes the announcements like when it's time for the first dance, or the cake cutting, or the sendoff.

I've been to weddings with no DJ, and I just knew that's not what I wanted for my wedding. But I have read about a lot of couples who did it themselves with a playlist and a speaker, and it worked out just fine.

I think it's more of a personal preference than anything else.

You absolutely don't need one. We wanted to have an MC, and not foist that onto a friend. So we went with a DJ.

You don't have to do anything, but I would recommend hiring a DJ. They do more than just hit play on a pre-set playlist. The read the room to play music that suits your crowd, MC the event, make sure that guests know what events are taking place and where, etc. No matter how great your playlist is, your iPhone can't change the next song based on your guest's reaction.

We have a dj/photographer/photo booth package for 1495 and for an additional 80 they'll also provide our minister person it was so easy to just have one company deal with it all.

My maid of honor did t have a dj at her wedding last year and that still went great! A family friend brought his sound system and was the MC and although it was set to a play list he still took song requests. People still danced and enjoyed themselves! I’m not having a dj for wedding next month after watching how well it worked out for her and how much she saved!

I personally am having a DJ because I don't want to worry about music - I just want them to take care of reading the crowd and playing what they think fits.

However, if you're having a reception that does not have dancing, you could just get the Premium Spotify or Pandora and play music that way! Our friends did that at their reception since they did not have dancing.

You don’t have to have one but entertainment for guests is never a bad thing, either. I was going to do the ipod route but FH absolutely wanted entertainment for guests, his one wedding request was a live band, so we went that route.

The last wedding I went To without a dj was terrible. They had no one coordinating or mcing anything, they ran out of songs. It was pretty bad. I say If you do this be careful and prepared.

You don't have to have a DJ, however I do recommend one. Your DJ will also acting as you MC(in most cases). He will make the announcements such as cake cutting, first dance, etc. If you can find it in your budget to have one, you should consider it.

Because we have good speakers and a microphone we are skipping the DJ. We're also skipping a lot of the reception events like bouquet toss, parent/bride dances, and all of that. We have separate playlists for each part of the day, a friend to help, and a couple of marker songs so we know when to have speeches before our first dance and when to cut the cake. We also have less than 50 guests so there isn't a need for an MC.

We aren’t having one! We decided to pull money from DJ/entertainment and put it towards investing in our photography, which was more important to us. We are renting speaker equipment for about $100 bucks, putting together a playlist for cocktail hour and reception, and just having a friend do the announcements for cake cutting, first dance, etc. We also found an app where guests can request songs and my bridal party (I have TWELVE maids) is going to help a little with adjusting music as needed. All in all, I think it’s going to go just fine without a DJ- not a lot of people at the wedding will be dancing anyway and this way, we can play what we want and know our families will enjoy Smiley smile

No you don't, but they are SO nice to help manage the flow of your guests. If you're having more than 50 guests I would get a DJ!

I had one. Mostly because I needed a sound system and when I looked into renting one it was almost as expensive as the DJ I found aha so it was like yeah ok I may as well get the DJ, he acted as the MC too.

We aren’t having a dj! We will have a friend just to announce the specific dances, but we will be using Spotify and speakers! Our sound system comes with our venue!

I had a friend who used an ipod and sound system. Luckily we have done charismatic friends who MCd. It can work or it can go terribly. Just depends.

I went to a wedding that didn’t have a dj, they used a Spotify playlist (the venue had a sound system)and had a friend announce the important stuff at the beginning and it went great! I had planned on going this route for my wedding but ended up hiring a dj instead. I am sure our wedding would have been great anyway, but I ended up really liking having a dj to help keep things on track, keep the dance floor full and to give us some added suggestions (such as some extra fun during our grand entrance and then he had everyone gather round at the end of the night and we danced to our first dance song again which he does at all his weddings and I highly recommend it! I think it added an extra element of fun to the wedding, but ultimately it is something you can skip if that is your preference.

You definitely don't need a DJ but it's nice to have. We're having one. If you don't want one, it would be good to have a trusted individual who can make important announcements via MIC to keep your guests in the know. Have a playlist from a device and you're good to go! Smiley heart
