Do we stay at a hotel?

Future Mrs. Y, on March 4, 2015 at 11:18 AM Posted in Planning 0 15

My FH does not want to stay at a hotel the night of the wedding. He said he would just feel better coming home and laying down in his own bed. Our venue is about an hour away from our house so it's not too far of a drive but everyone I know has stayed in a hotel the night they got married. Is it weird not to? Pros vs cons? I kinda want to but I am willing to just go home for him.

If either of you plan on consuming any cocktails during the wedding reception then I would totally stay at a hotel.

No... not @ all.. I remember reading one from a post that a couple just went home and watched sportscenter which was their normal sunday night routine. I thought that was really cute.

But @Maltese makes a very good point, unless you have a designated driver.

Besides, a 60 minute car ride turns into what can feel like a two hour car ride after a day as long as wedding day.

I don't want to go home because I fear that my house will be a disaster from a stressful week with people coming and going. I don't want to have to clean my house so that its nice for my wedding night haha. We are staying at a different hotel than our guests, intentionally because I dont want to be with them at all haha. King bed, jacuzzi tub, rain shower > my condo haha

I wouldn't want to because your wedding night isn't any other night. Plus, I definitely wouldn't want to spend an hour in a car on the way home after an exhausting day.

I struggled accepting that we're spending $250 on a hotel room we will be staying in for 8 hours between reception and checkout. For this reason, we didn't spring for some fancy honeymoon suite. We're just doing the hotel so I don't have to stress about any messes at our home.

It's a special day, the last thing I want to do at the end of it is go home lol. I feel like if we go home the magic will be over. I don't want that to happen until the next day lol.

You will be so exhausted. You will not want to make the hour drive, even if you haven't been drinking. It is a very long and draining day. I'd do the hotel. Especially if you will have OOT guests at the same hotel. You may want to spend additional time with them after the wedding or for breakfast the next day.

I agree if you will be drinking then it would be best to stay at the hotel. We live like a mile away from where the wedding will be so we will be going home.

I would stay in a hotel, especially if you plan on drinking. It will make the night more special and far less stressful- you won't have to worry about packing up all of your things (gifts, dress, etc. etc.) and getting home late at night.

Have you asked the hotel where you have a block whether they offer any deals for the bride and groom? My hotel gives us a free night for every 20 room nights booked (so either 20 rooms booked for one night, 10 rooms booked 2 nights, or any combination of the two). We have already gotten one night free that way, since our parents as well as family and friends from out of town have already reserved rooms at the hotel.

It's not necessary but I would consider what everyone else is saying. If you have drinks definitely don't drive home. FH and I are staying in a hotel. Think about how long the day really is, you will be exhausted.

We are staying in a hotel that night right next to the airport so we can head out on our HM the next morning. We live 5 hours from where our venue is so we would be getting a hotel either way. I think it would be fun...it's a really important day for you. Go set that hotel up with all kinds of goodies and make it a night to remember

Our venue is a hotel, so we booked one of their suites. I'm using it to get ready and we're spending the night. I get wanting to just go home and sleep in your own bed, but if the venue is an hour away you may not want to make that drive after such a long day.

Would you guys like to get your hotel room for free? Maybe that would convince him on staying at a hotel! I was looking for a nice room and possible indoor space to take pics in case the weather was bad on the day of the wedding. In my search I found a rewards program that offered me points that I could spend on a hotel room with NO BLACK OUT DATES! Here's how it worked, apply for the Credit card within the first 3 months spend $1000 and they give you 60,000 + $50 statement credit or 70,000 points as a reward. And you can use those points for your honeymoon or the night of your wedding! I started doing some looking to see how many points each night would be and turns out most hotels are 15,000 points per night some even 10,000! The same hotel I was looking at to book and pay cash for $100+ (holiday inn king suite) I can get for free by just using a card to pay for items for the wedding that I had already planned on spending cash for! Honey let me tell y'all I spent the $1000 within the first 48 hours of me having the card and turned around and paid the card off. Now I'm waiting for the company to deposit my 60,000 points so I can book my room for wedding night!
