Do we have to have a rehearsal dinner?

My fiance and I are paying for our wedding ourselves and were far from being rich .. Just curious if we had to have a rehearsal dinner? Or if we could just go all eat out at a really nice restaurant?

@Bonnie - were you expected to attend a rehearsal?

@Brianna - it is just common courtesy to pay for dinner after you expect your wedding party to attend the rehearsal. "You do you" doesn't always apply ...

No Brianna. You don't make people go to a rehearsal and then pay for dinner. It's wrong.

They're not necessary. We don't have a bridal party and are only having one because FH wants our immediate families to bond.

You dont have to, but also remember you dont have to spend an arm and leg. We had a huge wedding party and had like 60 people with family and bridal party and their dates at our rehearsal and we had pizza, salad and breadsticks. It cost like $500 for all of it and they had a good time relaxing with everyone before the wedding. But it's totally up to you.

We're not. In order to hold the rehearsal at the venue we needed to meet the catering minimum AGAIN. I don't want a rehearsal 2k worth when we're not having a bridal party!

We had a small wedding party and just went to a pizza place for our RD.

Brianna - if you have a rehearsal dinner it is how you are thanking them for being in the wedding. They don't pay for their own thank you.

If you don't have a rehearsal then no rehearsal dinner is necessary. If you do have a rehearsal, then you should host a dinner of some sort for your bridal party. It doesn't have to be fancy or expensive.

I think if you have a rehearsal then you should have a RD. My FMIL is planning ours. I told her it does not need to be fancy but whatever she decides is fine! I"m ok with food from the grill, a restaurant, or catered so I'm leaving the options open but it is important to feed your party! FMIL made it a point to also invite more than just the BP because people are coming from out of town so it will be the BP plus immediate family.
