We have selected items for our menu but I am really concerned it isn't enough food/options. We have

Cocktail hour

-pulled pork sliders

-artichoke dip

Dinner

-Caesar salad

-chicken piccata

-tri tip with jack Daniels glaze

-rolls with butter

-garlic mashed potatoes

-green beans almondine

Dessert

-individually packaged mini bundt cakes

-ice cream sandwich bar

Should I add a cocktail hour appetizer? Is dinner enough? There is also a vegetarian option(pasta) just in case but I don't think we have anyone who needs that

Yoy know your crowd, but if there *is* a vegetarian option, but it isn't included in the buffet line, how will people know it exists? I only say this because I have been to weddings with plated meals, no vegetarian option was listed in the RSVP, and so I munched on bread and side salad all night. It was only after the wedding I found out I could have requested a vegetarian option on site.

@Tiffany - you hate when there are a ton of apps?

What did food ever do to you?

In a perfect world where we all had unlimited budgets, you could add an additional app or 2 to cocktail hour, add a garden salad to dinner * I LOATHE Caesar salad* and maybe a pasta (as a side, not a vegetarian main)

That being said, as is your serving a complete meal & your guests will not go hungry.

Add 1 or 2 things to your cocktail hour, but it looks as if you have all the bases covered. Do you have vegan/gluten-free options for all guests if they need it?

Dinner seems fine -- conventional rolls, salad, green beans, mashed, and a chick or beef dish.

Cocktail apps seem almost inappropriately light. Sliders are small, and I assume the artichoke dip is to dress them up (unless you have something else that your guests can spice up with the dip). Besides, while pulled pork seems to be something lots of people like, it would be something I'd pass over in favor of something else (and I would be expecting at least two more options) - something like some chicken or beef on skewers or pigs in a blanket (don't laugh, everyone loves them). Your cocktail menu, as it stands, is so sparse that it will be noticeable. As a guest, I wouldn't make a fuss about it (if you're serving cocktails at cocktail hour -- which you are, right?).

As far as dessert, are you serving wedding cake? I'm not sure you need another individually packaged Bundt cake and ice creams bars if you're serving wedding cake (and honestly, I'd serve ice cream in a bowl before I handed out ice cream bars at a wedding). No offense.

I think dinner sounds great, make sure you know who your vegetarians are though. I think adding 2 more apps is a good idea.

We are not serving cake so the bundt cakes are the alternative. People can take them home if they don't want them that evening. The ice cream sandwich bar is a vendor that sets up a stand where people can choose their cookie and ice cream flavors so they can mix and match. We are doing the sandwiches cause it'll be a warm summer evening. The vegetarian option will be listed on the menu at the buffet so people know they can ask for it. We also have gluten free options cause FH mom cannot have gluten. We are also ordering some of the bundt cakes gluten free

You need 3 more options during cocktail hour - I've been told 5 hors d'oeuvres per 45 minutes per person - hopefully including fresh fruit, which I eat at every meal.

If the vegetarian pasta is on the buffet, you don't need another starch option, if now I would. I'd also throw on an additional vegetable/side, too. And I agree with P.P. that Caesar salad wouldn't be as popular with everyone, plus Caesar isn't vegetarian (anchovies).

One of the most poorly hosted weddings we've ever attended had only 3 passed hors d'oeuvres (we were offered only one of them), a 6 item buffet (2 meats, salad, roll, starch, vegetable); we couldn't wait to leave and stop and get something to eat.

Are you sure there isn't anyone in the crowd that doesn't eat pork? I know quite a few people who don't eat pork for a multitude of reasons. If there is one person, they'll be SOL during the cocktail hour. That's why people say that you need more options. @Tiffany it's not about people starving in an hour, it's about making sure there's enough variety so that all guests are able to enjoy something.

Why are you serving bundt cakes instead of wedding cake? Are you doing a cake cutting?

I agree that you need more for cocktail hour, including veggie options. As a vegetarian said on this thread, the only thing he could eat at cocktail hour is the dip. At least have some bread, veggies, fruit, cheese, etc.

Dinner is okay, but I would also add another vegetable or a side of pasta or rice. Chicken picatta (which I love by the way!) goes well with either rice or pasta, but I don't like it so much with mashed potatoes.

Great choices. I would do veggie and dip with fruit and cheese with crackers for cocktail hour

In all honesty there is this amount of food for a light cocktail hour in NY, but to be honest I think there is WAY too much food at NY weddings. I would add a few appetizers for cocktail hour. Maybe one more meat (I hear pigs in a blanket are a huge hit) one more vegetarian (maybe spring rolls or samosas) would suffice.

Also definitely go with a garden salad instead if you can, caeser salad is NOT vegetarian due to the fish based dressing!

I would just make sure you have enough of each option but I have been to many weddings that do not even serve appetizers at the cocktail hours, i wouldn't be worried, they wont starve, they will get drinks and mingle Smiley smile

I'd be hangry if I didn't get food with cocktail hour! Maybe add 1 or 2 more options for variety.

I think you should add more and for cocktail hour ... they do take in account amount of people but if nobody likes what your serving it may not be enough
