Do we have enough food?

Naomi, on June 26, 2017 at 6:22 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 38

We have selected items for our menu but I am really concerned it isn't enough food/options. We have

Cocktail hour

-pulled pork sliders

-artichoke dip

Dinner

-Caesar salad

-chicken piccata

-tri tip with jack Daniels glaze

-rolls with butter

-garlic mashed potatoes

-green beans almondine

Dessert

-individually packaged mini bundt cakes

-ice cream sandwich bar

Should I add a cocktail hour appetizer? Is dinner enough? There is also a vegetarian option(pasta) just in case but I don't think we have anyone who needs that

I mean, it depends on the amount of the food, and not the variety of choices, mostly.

How many guests do you have?

    Cocktail hour is very light.

I think a cheese and cracker, fruit, and veggie with dip tray would be smart to add to cocktail hour.

If you're feeling it isn't enough, you're probably right. Maybe add something more for the cocktail hour.

I'd add two to the cocktail hour. One sitting (cheese, crackers, etc) and one passed.

You need to seriously beef up your cocktail hour.

I think you should add something else to cocktail hour even if it's cheese and crackers.

Agree with previous posters that cocktail hour needs beefing up. Cheese and crackers are always good, maybe hummus and veggies/pita. Bruschetta is also a good global crowd pleaser. And all are fairly inexpensive add-ons. Mini crab cakes or coconut shrimp are always popular.

I would also add an additional vegetable to dinner because its an easy way to give another options to people.

UO I think your cocktail hour is fine. People are not going to starve to death in an hour. I hate when there are a ton of apps- what is the point of dinner at that point?

Thanks for the honest advice! I will get pricing on adding a cheese fruit and cracker display as well as one other appetizer. We have about 80 people which isn't a terribly large crowd but the more I think about it our families are big eaters lol

Yeah that's too little food. You definitely need a pasta dish with dinner. I'd also add two more apps for cocktail hour. Maybe a fruit and veggie display with cheese and crackers.

As a vegetarian, it sounds like I could only eat sides during dinner and dip during cocktail hour (if someone can confirm it's made without chicken stock). Remember that non-vegetarian guests CAN eat meatless items, but vegetarians can't eat items with meat...

Our wedding was about 80 guests as well-we did two passed apps (buffalo chicen mini tacos and caprese skewers) and one stationary app(fruit/cheese/crackers). I'd have loved to do more-but couldn't justify it price wise. It was totally fine given that our cocktail hour was actually only like 45 min and dinner was served quickly. For us it was more cost effective to add an additional side to dinner than to add another app-so check that out. Also- are you doing buffet or plated? If plated, do you know how large the portions are? and for buffet, whats the overage % they prepare to ensure that there is enough for everyone?

I would add something else to the cocktail hour as PP mentioned. Add mixed veggie tray with crackers and dip

As PPs suggested, adding a fruit/cheese display or something like that to cocktail hour would be great!

It's buffet style and our caterer makes enough for 20 extra people. She said she loves to have extras. There is a vegetarian option just in case but I don't think we have anyone who needs that. I will definitely add to cocktail hour because our ceremony is at 5:30 and people will be hungry by 6. Thanks guys!

I would add at least two more options for cocktail hour. Maybe fruit or veggie trays, cheese tray, stuffed mushrooms, etc. I would also add another side for dinner I think.
